Ur killing me Smalls
Plasma are going to give you the best bang for your buck. They produce the best black levels and the most accurate colors. Only real downside of Plasmas is the glare (sunlight mainly) and the extra power consumption. I got a Panasonic 42 inch last fall and love it.
 
Pisses me off they are basically giving away the glasses. When I bought mine in december they still wanted like $200 a pop for them.
 
The glare would be a problem since where we plan on putting it get a lot of light coming in

although amazon usually has best prices. You can check www.paulstv.com as well. My dad and I ordered 2 Samsung LED tvs from there and were quite happy.

geez man...$699 for a 51 in plasma....i paid $999 for a 57in Rear Projection CRT hdtv. i have not looked at pricing in a long time so i am surprised by how inexpensive they are now
 
Yeah, Plasma TV prices have dropped dramatically. Fuck smart TVs though. I don't need all that extra shit.
 
Plasma is best bang for your buck period. The larger the screen the more apparent the quality difference is. Leds tend to be brighter , but the black levels and color accuracy pale in comparison. But frankly once its in your house you probably wont even think about it so long as its a decent set. The glare isnt a big issue unless you have a set with no AR coating unless you have large windows directly in front of the TV.

If you can wait late Aug is a better time to shop. Amazon and PaulsTV are your best choices for browsing to see what your best options are.

Oh and Holy shit a Ca$ino sighting.
 
Best buy has an offer for an LG smart/3d 47" with 6 or was it 12 glasses and free blue ray player for $1299
 
3D is useless in general....but almost all the higher end tvs come with it now.

Go as big as the room will allow....55 inch is not that big IMO....it is kind of perfect

when i bought my 55 inch tv and got it home i thought to myself "shit that looks alot bigger when it's not next to 20 other 55 inch screen" now that i've had it almost a year i wish i would have gone bigger still, and probably will for the basement/man cave tv.
