Plax going to Jail

Then the law needs to be question, and smells of 2nd amendment violation. Maybe that's just me.

I get what they're trying to do with the law (See: try to get guns out of gang hands with threats of multi-year prison sentences), but it just seems over the top in this case. At the very least, the state should be taking these by a case-by-case basis. Giving a guy 2 years in prison because he feared for his own safety and carried a gun on him seems out of line.

Taking a loaded gun into a club should land you jail time. Don't be dumb.

Edit: I've gotten the impression from a buddy of mine that lives in NY that the DA was trying to make an example of Plax before he retired. I have no idea if there's any truth to that or not.

When a state has a lot of crime relating to unregistered firearms and as such, makes VERY strict gun control laws, why would a guy who has all the moeny in the world not just hire someone to register it for him or better yet, buy a trained security gaurd?

Burress wouldn't have gotten in nearly as much trouble if it wasn't for the fact that he had an unregistered firearm. It takes almost no time to do, but decided against it.

He endangered his own and others' lives with an unregistered weapon, I see no reason anyone should play the poor Plaxico card.

Dude, we're talking Plaxico Burress here. You think he knew the gun laws of New York State? I read that NFL teams go over this stuff with players during pre-season. Plax must have been asleep during those meetings.

I still can't figure out how he shot himself.

That gun uses fucking 40 caliber bullets and has one of those double triggers in lieu of a safety. For it to go off as it's falling down his sweat pants (as was described), the trigger would have to have gotten caught on something.

Said it before, but that motherfucker is extremely lucky he didn't bleed out like Sean Taylor did. He's also lucky that thing was pointing down and didn't go off into the club where it could have ricocheted and fuck someone else up.

He had no shot of not going to jail, should have done the plea from the get-go.

Once again the debate of "why a guy gets a month for killing a man while driving drunk, compared to this" should come up. In the case of Plax, he brings a gun into a club, concealed, and only uses it in that he shoots himself, like an idiot. Sure, stupid thing. However, the only person he even came close to killing was himself. In the case of Stallworth, he actually did kill a human being while driving drunk (him being an illegal immigrant is irrelevant - he's still human. IMO, of course). So, he pays the victim's families' a lot of money, has to serve probation, and will never be able to drive again. Sure, harsh, but he's not serving 2 years in a federal prison for it.

I'm not even try to talk down the Stallworth sentence like it's nothing, because he was punished, no doubt. I'm just trying to figure out how a guy gets 2 years in prison for holding a weapon and never using it with malicious intent, and not lying about what happened.

Because Stallworth was fine. He may have been drunk driving but the guy apparently jaywalked and just popped out into the street where he was hit, which in FL law sort of 'excuses' you. I mean it's like if somebody walking on the street while your driving just walks out in the road and you smack 'em. Not to mention there was a camera/witness to the event to corroborate that, and Stallworth worked out a deal with the family of the victim as well.

Yep, when you put it that way, Plaxico got off easy. Imagine if that bullet hit and killed someone?

Like I said before, I have no problems with NYC's strict gun laws, but I didn't care for the grandstanding by King Bloomberg.
