Most British football fans will remember the hazy days of the 1990s, when Paolo di Canio shoved a referee and Eric Cantona aimed a kick at a spectator during a match.
But if you thought those incidents were bad, wait until you see the outrageous crime perpetrated by Argentine star Leandro Schiavi, younger brother of Boca Juniors and Argentina star Rolando Schiavi, who has been banned for six years for kicking a referee in the head.
The incident took place 17 minutes into the second half of a Torneo 6 Ligas cup match between Club Jorge Newbery and Huracan de Arribeños, during which referee Dario Fuenes sent Huracan's Schiavi off for a second yellow card.
Schiavi and his Huracan team-mates, trailing 2-0 at the time and on their way out of the tournament, were incensed at what they thought was a soft sending off: surrounding and jostling Fuenes progressed to pushing, shoving and wrestling of the match official.
And as the man in black fell to his knees, Schiavi saw his chance to put his name into the history books for perhaps the worst attack on a referee ever seen: he kicked out straight into the ref's face in a shocking attack (the kick is just after the 1:20 mark in the video).
Schiavi's shocking attack earned him a six-year ban from the game - though how it didn't also earn him a spell behind bars we're not sure. His team-mates Walter Gil and Andrés Alonso also earned six-year bans, while Lucas Rosales earned a two-year ban.
