Watching jms' Mizzou video brought back a flood of frustrating memories from previous NCAA dynasties. I would be interested in hearing your tales of woe, and seeing actual video footage if you have it. My stories are from far in the past, and the photos I uploaded at the time were in the old MM dynasty section so I think they are lost in the internet void. But here are my bottom two NCAA dynasty moments....
#2 - I had slowly built up Baylor into a national power. I made it to the title game, where I faced USC, who was always a 99 OVR A+ team in the game. I was a big underdog, but I managed to hold on to a slim 6 point lead for most of the game. USC had the ball a little past midfield and there was time for only one more play. Being an NCAA veteran, I am used to losing games on hail marys, but this was a bit too much for me. At the snap of the ball my DE runs around the OT and almost immediately slams into the QB. The USC QB gets off one of those wobbly duck animation passes, except this one looks like its launched out of a cannon (a 60 yard "duck"...love the EA physics engine). Anyway, at this point I think I am in good shape because there is no way the USC WRs can get downfield fast enough. So I am the FS, and I run away from where the pass is going to land in the endzone and think I've won the national title. But wait! Another Baylor defender sprints towards the ball and manages to tip it up in the air. What is going on? The Baylor player tries to catch the ball but he tips it back toward the line of scrimmage. AAAGH! I am desperately trying to "turn into" this idiot, mashing buttons. The ball, as expected flies right into the USC WR's hands, but he's still 5 yards away from the endzone. If I can only turn into the Baylor tip idiot, I still might have a chance to tackle the defender short of the endzone. I continue to button mash, but I end up turning into the player standing 10 yards behind the USC WR as tip idiot watches in a daze...USC scores a TD and wins the national title.
#1 - I created a school that played in the ACC. Our big rival was Virginia Tech, who was always a tough team. Anyways, very similar situation to the last one. VT was at midfield, trailing by 6, final play of the game. I put in my prevent defense and wait for the hail mary...but no! Virginia Tech decides to run the ball on the last play of the game. HB goes upfield about 10 yards before he's met by the MLB. The MLB manages to stop the HB's momentum, but bounces off the tackle. HB goes upfield another 5 yards before he's met by another defender...same result. HB goes upfield another 5 yards, and this time he's met by half the defense. In a writhing mass of NCAA "missed tackle" animations, SIX players fall by the wayside and the HB is still standing. HB continues his journey to the end zone, which now has 10 defenders in his wake. But there is still one more defender near the goal line, so I take control of the situation and blast into the HB at the 5 yard line. Instead of stopping the HB, my tackle attempt actually accelerates the HB into the endzone with some weird "skip/hop" animation, even though I was in front of the runner. VT wins on a 50 yard run on the last play of the game.
