Program of the decade? (2000-09)

A few of us were discussing this in the chatbox, so I decided it would spark a nice debate in a thread.

Who would you consider the best program of the last decade? There's a few schools that you can make legitimate arguments for.

UCLA has to be mentioned. No championships but they have been consistently good.

For me, it's between:

UConn
Florida
UNC
UCLA

Rethinking it, I'm going to have to go with UConn on this one.


Sweet 16's: 1
Elite 8's: 2
Final Fours's: 1
National Championship's won:1

Record in the tournament: 20-7
Overall Record: 217-67

(Stats from 2000 season through 2009 season)




You could make an argument for UCLA and for UNC. Nobody else really compares. Michigan state was more dominant end of the 1990's and early 2000's

Kansas does.. Actually, KU surpasses..

1 National Championship
2 Final Fours
2 Elite Eights
2 Sweet 16's

Tournament record 25-8
Overall record 259-58

They also have a string of 5 consecutive Big 12 conference champions going on, and have won the Big 12 7 out of 9 seasons during the 2000's.

Not really sure why they are getting overlooked, but that at the very least is equally comparable to all these other elite schools.

4 Final 4's (FOUR!)

Overall record: 248-96 (.721)
Tournament record: 25-9

Not to mention, 12 straight NCAA tourneys, and every player under Izzo has made it to a Final 4.

and argath your the only person in the world who would consider teams by that order. Everyone else in the world goes by what round you make it to.

Kansas, and their stats, records, results, say otherwise.

I'm also curious why anyone has Florida in there. Florida has back to back National Championchipss, awesome. They also failed to get past the second round since 2000-2001 leading up to that, and haven't made the tournament since.

So if your basing it on National Championships, then it's a tie between Florida and UNC, and MSU doesn't have a say.

If you are trying to look at the overall picture, I don't see how you cannot put Kansas in that argument of 3. They have been just as impressive from a results standpoint, if not more.

ESPN put Kansas at #2 on their list behind UNC. Michigan State tied with Florida at 3. I can live with that.

agreed, no way can a team that will have missed the tournament 3 of the last 8 years be program of the decade
