I don't follow the NFL very well, how have the drafts been since Al Davis died? I know you guys gave up those picks for Palmer (I LOL'd at that), but outside of that, has it just been "get the dumb, physical beast and we'll teach him football" still or have things gotten better?
These are the Raiders drafts since 07'
2012
3. Tony Bergstrom, T, Utah
4. Miles Burris, LB, San Diego State
5a. Jack Crawford, DE, Penn State
5b. Juron Criner, WR, Arizona
6. Christo Bilukidi, DT, Georgia State
7. Nathan Stupar, LB, Penn State
- Too soon to tell, but Burris and Criner were the bright spots of the first McKenzie draft.
2011
2. Stefen Wisniewski, C, Penn State - Solid player right now
3a. DeMarcus Van Dyke, CB, Miami - I actually liked this guy's potential, but he got released last season, which I thought was a COMPLETE fucking waste because I dont think he was given a chance, but maybe the organization knows or has seen something I havent. Think he plays for PIT now
3b. Joseph Barksdale, T, LSU - At the time, considered a good T given the class. I was actually pretty glad we got him when we did. Ended up releasing him. Plays for Rams now
4a. Chimdi Chekwa, CB, Ohio State - Still with the team. I think has some potential though
4b. Taiwan Jones, RB, Eastern Washington - I think he is a breakout player waiting to happen... at RB. They're switching him to CB though. He played DB in HS.
5. Denarius Moore, WR, Tennessee- Current starter. Good player
6. Richard Gordon, TE Miami - Was the back up TE, now I think he is the default starter.
7. David Ausberry, WR, USC - Plays TE for us. I think he is a beast player waiting to happen, if the coaches can just trust him to be on the field.
2010
1. Rolando McClain, LB, Alabama - At the time, was considered a great pick. Now realize he's worthless.
2. Lamarr Houston, DT, Texas - Starting DE end now. Good player. Very intense.
3. Jared Veldheer, T, Hillsdale - Beast.
4a. Bruce Campbell, T, Maryland - He was actually mocked to go in the 1st Rd. But the raiders grabbed him in the 4th which was considered to be the steal of the draft because he is such a physical freak. He was traded to Carolina.
4b. Jacoby Ford, WR, Clemson - Fast motherfucker who likes to go up and get the ball. Underrated receiver, but fuck he's like mcfadden and ALWAYS hurt it seems like
5. Walter McFadden, CB, Auburn - Meh. CB journeyman now with PIT
6. Travis Goethel, LB, Arizona State - He was the guy who came in for the injured Condo in the infamous Special Teams fuck up game, not his fault though he hadnt played LS since HS. Still with the team
7a. Jeremy Ware, CB, Michigan State - amounted to nothing. waived by the bears last season
7b. Stevie Brown, S, Michigan - Didnt do anything for Raiders, Panthers or Colts but had a break out season for the Giants
The New York Giants had Stevie Brown on roster as of April 2, 2012.[14] While replacing an injured Kenny Phillips for the early part of the 2012 NFL season, Brown led the entire NFL in takeaways at seven, with five interceptions and two fumble recoveries as of October 28, 2012 (through week 8).[15] In the eighth week on October 28 against the Dallas Cowboys, Brown had two interceptions and a fumble recovery.[16] The following day, he was named National Football Conference (NFC) Defensive Player of the Week.[17] Against the New Orleans Saints and Drew Brees on December 9, Brown had 2 interceptions and a forced fumble and established a Giants franchise record for single-season interception return yards (259).[18][19] On December 30 against the Philadelphia Eagles, Brown returned a Michael Vick forward pass 48 yards to ignite a 42–7 rout, earning him a second NFC Defensive Player of the Week recognition on January 2.[20][21]
He finished the season with 307 return yards,[22] which ranked as the fourth highest single-season total in NFL history.[23] His 8 interceptions, which was second in the NFL,[24] was the most by a Giant in a season since the 1968 Giants got 10 interceptions from Willie Williams and 8 from Spider Lockhart.[25] In addition, this led the entire NFL, with near twice as many yards as second-place Ronde Barber of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.[26] Brown signed his $2.023 million one-year restricted free agent tender on March 19, 2013.[27]
2009
1. Darrius Heyward-Bey, WR, Maryland - He was rated as a 1st Rd WR, but he went too high. I think he can do well, but had instability in OAK
2. Mike Mitchell, S, Ohio University - Lot of criticisim for taking him in the 2nd (whereas a lot of teams had him rated has 7th rd or UDFA), although we now know the Bears were ready and willing to take him a few picks later. Great in the box safety and hits like a truck. I actually expected him to resign with the Raiders, because he has damn good work ethic, but he signed with the Panthers for 1 YR
3. Matt Shaughnessy, DE Wisconsin - Good pass rush DE. Starter last season
4a. Louis Murphy, WR, Florida - I think he is a good WR, and I think he now plays for NYG after being traded to Carolina. He was that had that great game against Pittsburgh years ago.
4b. Slade Norris, LB, Oregon State - Was good depth for a few years, I think he is/was on a practice squad somewhere
6a. Stryker Sulak, DE, Missouri - Waived before training camp
6b. Brandon Myers, TE, Iowa - Starting TE after Miller left. Great pass catcher and was basically Palmer's go to guy the last 2 years. Recently signed a 4 yr deal with NYG
2008
1. Darren McFadden, RB, Arkansas - Glass cannon
4a. Tyvon Branch, DB, Connecticut - GREAT player. One of the better safeties in the league.
4b. Arman Shields, WR, Richmond - Injuries plagued him
6. Trevor Scott, DE, Buffalo - Really good pass rusher
7. Chaz Schilens, WR, San Diego State - WAS a good receiver during his time in Oakland. I think he last played for the jets this last season
This was actually a really good draft given the picks we had. Tyvon Branch was probably the biggest bright spots of the last 6 years of drafting.
2007
1. JaMarcus Russell, QB, LSU - BUST. Lazy. Set the Raiders back years.
2. Zach Miller, TE, Arizona State - GREAT Player. GREAT TE. One of the best in the league
3a. Quentin Moses, DE, Georgia - He was cut during camp
3b. Mario Henderson, OL, Florida State - During the time he was with the raiders and up to the point he was a FA or he was considered pretty good.
3c. Johnnie Lee Higgins, WR, UTEP - Considered one of the better punt returners in a long time. Great speed. I think he's out of football now.
4a. Michael Bush, RB, Louisville - Great power back. Great back up
4b. John Bowie, CB, Cincinnati - Worthless
5a. Jay Richardson, DE, Ohio State - Worthless
5b. Eric Frampton, S, Washington State - Currently the starter for the Dallas Cowboys
6. Oren O'Neal, FB, Arkansas State - Injuries doomed him
7. Jonathan Holland, WR, Louisiana Tech - Injuries doomed him
-07 had good players in Miller, Henderson, Higgins, Bush, Frampton
-The obvious black spot is Russel and Moses here
So all in all, the drafting hasnt been horrible by any stretch of the imagination. I'd say decent but not good. But two glaring black spots are jamarcus and mcclain.
