Raiders Pursuing Carson Palmer

The Oakland Raiders approached the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday about a trade for quarterback Carson Palmer, Yahoo! Sports reported, citing a source familiar with the Raiders' thinking.

Bengals owner Mike Brown has been uninterested in trading Palmer, who said before the season that he would retire if Cincinnati didn't trade him and so far has been true to his word.

The Raiders lost starting quarterback Jason Campbell with a broken collarbone during their 24-17 victory over the Cleveland Browns on Sunday. NFL Network insider Jason La Canfora reported Sunday that Campbell likely will miss the rest of the regular season.

Kyle Boller is Oakland's backup, and behind him is rookie Terrelle Pryor, who has yet to take a snap in the NFL and just became eligible after a five-game suspension.

The NFL trade deadline is Tuesday at 4 p.m. ET.

Oakland coach Hue Jackson was Cincinnati's wide receivers coach from 2004 to 2006, when Palmer was enjoying some of his best seasons.

Any possibility this happens? The Bengals have been pretty adamant of denying everyone and everything for Palmer. Apparently Oakland isn't ready for the TP era yet.

Why on earth do they think trading for Palmer would be a better move than rolling with Boller? Palmer has been sitting on his ass, is likely out of shape, and even if he's in shape, it will take him a few weeks to learn the system and get acclimated. Boller has been with the team for two seasons and knows at least understands the playbook. By the time Palmer is playing, its Week 8. By the time he's comfortable, its Week 10 or 11. It's way too late to drag a guy in from the street, especially a guy who threw 20 picks last year, makes something like a billion dollars, and isn't exactly a world beater. The season is in full swing, at this point whatever you have at QB you are stuck with.

I heard Palmer has been working out at some sports institute with T.O., so I would tend to think he is in shape. But that being said, fuck Palmer. He's not worth the time or money you would sink into him this year. Just tell McFadden to be ready for a shit ton of work.

It's a tough situation because right now the Raiders are looking like a playoff team and Kyle Boller is fucking terrible. He was throwing balls 10 yards out of bounds yesterday to wide open receivers running out routes.

Campbell was having a great year in terms of decision making and taking care of the football. The Raiders don't need somebody to come in and throw for 300 yards a game, just somebody that won't turn the ball over.

They have to bring in somebody with Boller And Pryor being the only QBs. I'm guessing Trent Edwards is the logical solution since he was with the team in training camp but e sucks too.

Giving Palmer that kind of money is stupid but if he sucks then you can just go with Boller, TP or Somebody else.

I really feel bad for Campbell, he was just starting to come into his own.

Jason Campbell left the Oakland Raiders’ facility to get his collarbone surgically repaired with hopes of playing again this year.

Campbell told Oakland media that he was hopeful he could return from the injury he suffered Sunday against Cleveland in six weeks. The more realistic prognosis was that Campbell was finished for the season.

Now, as Campbell begins the healing process from his surgery, the most likely scenario is that he has played his final game as a Raider.

Now that the Raiders gave up a first-round pick in 2012 and at least a second-round pick in 2013 to get Carson Palmer from Cincinnati, it is safe to say the Raiders are discarding Campbell. The only way Campbell will come back is if Palmer is a complete disaster this year.

It is stunning how this situation changed. Campbell entered Sunday’s game as an improved player whom the Raiders completely believed in. The expectation was that the Raiders would eventually look to extend the contract of Campbell, who is a free agent at the end of the year.

You often hear about the brutality of this business. But I can’t think of a more brutal recent situation than this. Campbell worked hard in Oakland and he improved. He was a model teammate and was terrific with the media.

It’s tough to see good guys deal with these types of situations, but the Raiders are trying to win now and Oakland coach Hue Jackson did what he felt was necessary in light of Campbell’s injury.

Cincinnati coach Marvin Lewis hinted Tuesday that Jackson had shown interest in reuniting with Palmer for a while. But there is no way this trade would have been made had Campbell not been hurt. Campbell was the Raiders' quarterback until he was hurt.

And now he’s not.

Thats exactly what im saying, if the Raiders make the playoffs and better yet win a playoff game, the move is worth it. They definitely have a chance to do that this year. I do believe him and Hue Jackson worked together in the past, and that Palmer has apparently been staying in good shape (obviously can never recreate game shape or practices), but Palmer is a bright dude, if he wasnt staying very active it would've been pretty dumb of him.
