Rampage decline title fight against Shogun?

According to (Rua) to TATAME TV (below, in Portuguese), Rampage was offered the shot. "The UFC thought in other alternatives, but it didn't worked out. For some reason he (Jackson) didn't accepted it", Shogun said, talking about his upcoming fight against Jon Jones. "I'll have to change my training because he's a lot different from Rashad, much taller, and it'll be a great challenge. He's been surprising everybody in the UFC, defeated everybody with easy, and it'll be a tough fight for me", he stated.
 
250 lbs?!? holy shit. i knew Ramoage was a big LHW but 250 lbs is ridiculous. 250 puts him bigger than Cain, AA, Yvel, Fedor, CroCop, etc, etc. I mean, of the 26 HWs on the UFC roster, less than half (11/26) weighed in for their last fight at over 250. Likewise, only 6 out of 16 Strikeforce HWs weighed in over 250 for their last fight. In both cases, several fighters weighed in between 250 and 255 lbs. Granted these guys do lose some weight over the course of their camps, and some of them cut to get to 265, but still, a LHW walking around at 250 is ridiculous
 
Gotta keep that bulk up for the A-Team sequel man.

Which would you rather have? Movie money with licensing and franchise residuals OR... A mil or so for getting your ass beat on PPV?

He is just fat right now, a lot of these guys get way out of shape in between fights, Rampage is lazy as it is, Forrest gets up pretty high also

He won't 'cut' from that weight, he will start trainin and get down to a more normal range during his camp

You would be shocked to see some LW's really get up there and weigh in the 190's when not fighting

Big difference between "fight shape" and what they are going being during down time. Seems like some top guys don't train that much before they head into a camp, either.

My buddy who fights at 135 weights around 165-170 normally, and that's even with training every day.
 
6 weeks isn't enough time to prep for a title fight, especially against a guy like Shogun. I think Bones made a big mistake by taking this fight.

I don't know about that.

He's in great shape, he's mentally prepared for fighting. His camp has already been preparing for Shogun Rua, too.

The only tricky deal will be getting him back on track to peak for March 19th.

Yeah, that's a short turnaround, but with Jones you have a young guy who doesnt really need to win to stay hot. As long as he gives a spirited effort, and looks good in defeat, he'll come off a much bigger star than if he declined, and instead beat another Matyushenko type in the interim.

And if he wins, well, that's just gravy.

The kid is excited, hard to say no, especially the way they laid it out for him.
 
damn...maybe i just never made big cuts but when i was training for some amateur bouts the most I ever cut was 25 lbs or so to make 185
