Pretty much the story of the Caps season so far. The hope was that bringing Hunter on board would tighten things up, but the team is still terribly average. If the playoffs started today, the Leafs would have the final seed over us by one point.

Honestly though, with hockey being multiple games a week, we almost need a "Good Game" thread or something. This isn't football, and I think a lot of admins need to understand that. We are not talking about the Toronto/Montreal game a week in advance and a week after because Toronto will have played 6-8 games in that period. So we need a thread for quick things on games.

Plus also the big thing, how many people watched this game. You will be having a convo with like 3 people. With only about 10 hardcore hockey guys, having a thread for each game maybe 2 people watched isn't going to get activity boosting here.

One of the things brought up was having a Saturday and Sunday game threads. Any thoughts on that? A good game thread would also be a good thought.

There was about 20 games this weekend and one solitary thread which no one had any interest in posting in. There's an alleged 6 NYR fans and 0 WSH fans but really there's 3 of us combined and for many teams it's worse. Most of us have very little to say about other teams and when these games are worth 2 points and barely change the standings at all there's hardly anything noteworthy.

The RHTT kept this place ticking over and then when some real shit came up we actually put some conversation into it, sometimes even in its own thread. You could put us in Other Sports Talk and give us our damn thread back but you should recognize you'd be consigning hockey to a section where it certainly wouldn't grow at all when it probably has more potential around here than football and golf and that stuff.

Sounds like even the hockey fans of this forum have admitted that fact many times. I don't see why there's a need for a whole section if you can't muster more that one thread's worth of discussion.

Okay, qualify this statement, since every other statement from hockey fans has basically been "we don't really have anything to talk about most of the time."

Explain to me how there is potential around here for a hockey forum when even the hardcore hockey guys do not post a damn thing in said forum?

Playoffs in about 2 months, we'll all be talking then. Maybe we'll even start a few threads! Casual hockey fans might see the section and join in. Put us in Other Sports talk and we'll still be there, but the fairweather fans won't bother.

I don't understand why it's so difficult to keep the status quo and keep the regulars at least somewhat involved in discussion, as opposed to forcing us to do it some other way and basically eliminating all hockey discussion that ever will exist on here.

You guys make this to difficult. In the NFL/NCAA section there doesn't need to be a random thoughts thread. The topic is big enough and as I pointed out before, the schedule allows for threads to be made every week. But what are we suppose to do, post every single game every single night? As Wr50l pointed out, it is 2 points. An 82 game season.

What is kind of funny is, our random thoughts thread probably had more discussion in it then most would. Sure the odd mini sighting where he bangs his habs drum, but most of the time we had some good talk. There is just no way the number of people in the hockey forum will we be able to make a bunch of threads work. We would need massive topics to come up every night in order to do that. Playoff time allows each series to have its own thread and we get a lot of talk there, but not single games.
