Redskins agreed to terms with FS O.J. Atogwe on a five-year, $26 million contract.
Among NFL defensive backs, Atogwe's 44 turnovers accounted for rank third in the league over the past five seasons, and second in the NFC. (Only Ed Reed and Charles Woodson have more.) Also familiar with defensive coordinator Jim Haslett's system from their time together in St. Louis, the 30-year-old Atogwe will fit in nicely in D.C. He'll play free safety, with LaRon Landry manning the strong side and continuing to focus on "the box."

Very good signing and definitely improves their pass defense. But now they need to upgrade at CB.

In the end, I like the signing although its a pretty hefty pricetag. The Redskins get a safety who is great in coverage and is a ballhawk. That meshes very well with LaRon Landry, who is a guy who plays much better "in the box" as an extra linebacker at times.

Both players can play the others role, but they just aren't as effective by it. By having two superior safeties, who are each in their own comfort zone, that is a trickle-down effect that will help improve the entire defense.

It will now be interesting to see how the Redskins will approach the second corner spot. Carlos Rogers could be re-signed, or we could draft a corner. Re-signing Rogers probably took a hit, however.

5 million a year for a top Defensive Player I think the Skins did good on this deal.

I see Landry playing a roll more like Troy now that Atogwe is back there.

Who knows maybe thye'll throw money at Asomugha (spend money where it makes sense instead of just throwing it around)

Patterson, Prince, or Jimmy Smith could all be there at 10.

I look at this way, the O is going to BLOW anyway lets build the D

Jimmy Smith is very good in man to man and the Redskins play a lot of man to man I believe. Good fit?

Atogwe would have been an annual Pro Bowler if he played for a better team. He's a ballhawk who forces tons of fumbles and gets his share of INT's. Good vs the run and the pass, but not elite against either. Smart, heady player with great instincts. He is a bit injury prone if you are looking for a weakness. Rarely makes mental mistakes.

I watched two draft specials last night (one being Redskins Nation) but both specials stated Jones was a FREAK at the draft but alot of teams have concerns about his foot.

I was just about to post that. Another guy who, the more I keep hearing about, the more I like.
