Luke O'Brien — Patriots Safety Brandon Meriweather Allegedly Shoots Two Men During BrawlNew England Patriots safety Brandon Meriweather allegedly shot two men, one of them in the head, during a fight on February 27 outside a house party in Apopka, Florida, according to John Morgan, attorney for the victims.

The trouble started at the Blue Jeans Lounge in Apokpa when a friend of Meriweather's allegedly beat up a woman, according to Morgan. The woman's brother arrived later with his own friend, and the conflagration shifted to a nearby party, where the brother soon got the better of Meriweather's friend in a fight. That's when Meriweather allegedly pulled out his gun and fired at the brother, grazing the man's face and hitting the other victim in the head, according to Morgan.

"He's extremely lucky to be alive," Morgan said.

Both victims attended Apopka High School with Meriweather, who later played football at the University of Miami. Detectives from the Orange County Sheriff's Office are investigating the case but have made no arrests, Morgan said. The public information officer at the sheriff's office did not return phone calls yesterday.

Former Hurricane and current sports talk radio host Dan Sileo appears to be the first to mention the shooting. Until we hear back from the cops, however, these are all just allegations. But we'll keep you posted.

Well, it wouldn't be the first time he's shot someone, or lost his cool during a fight ... so, I'm gonna go ahead and say he's probably just a bad person.

Well, in his defense about the first incident. He owned the gun legally. One of his teammates was fired upon (and shot I believe) and Merriweather fired back at the shooter. Authorities didn't file any charges because all of his paperwork was legit.

As far as the details in the article goes....

1. Merriweather's friend beat up a girl at a club (the fuck?).

2. Said girl's brother (with his friend) got to the scene and got into it with Merriweather's friend.

3. The altercation ends up at another party/house where the brother beats up his friend.

4. Merriweather takes his firearm and fires it into a crowd, hitting two people.

Scumbag Merriweather to a degree because unless he did anything to quell the situation, call police, etc., you could say he was asking for the situation to get out of hand.

IMO, he's looking at a suspension for breaking the conduct code regardless of what happens to him legally.

I don't know the laws in that part of Florida or whether there will be overzealous politicians after him (as was the case with Plaxico here in NY), but I'd imagine if anything, he'll get probation depending on what self defense laws are on the books and if the gun he used was owned and operated legally.

(Back to Plax...what did him in was two fold....1) Firing a gun at all in NYC is a crime and 2) Plax's weapon was not legally registered in NY, I think it was registered in Jersey or Florida.....add in Mayor Bloomberg's public thrashing, the prosecutors were almost forced to seek serious jail time.

On the bright side, the only one who was victimized by Plax's gun was his own dumb self. If he had actually shot an innocent person in the club, fuck, his sentence would almost definitely be at least 5 years if not longer (I think he'll have served 2 years when he gets out in June).

Moral of the story....1) if you carry a gun, make sure you have all the necessary paperwork for it in wherever place you are and 2) use it as a last resort unless your life is in immediate danger and 3) don't hang around with scumbag fucks.
