The New England Patriots fear that star tight end Rob Gronkowski has a torn ACL in his right knee, a source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

Gronkowski, who suffered the injury in Sunday's wild 27-26 win over the Cleveland Browns, will undergo an MRI on Monday, according to the source.

The Patriots announced during the game that Gronkowski sustained an injury to his right leg. Patriots coach Bill Belichick revealed after the game that Gronkowski was taken to a hospital

dumb excuse, they don't have to go low. They just have to actually tackle instead of just diving at someone.

at some point it has to be complete law that there is no more spearing and you have to actually use your arms and the helmet is a protective device and not a weapon. It is not that hard at all. Just a new skill to learn

BALTIMORE -- Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson suffered a sprained foot during Sunday's loss to the Baltimore Ravens.

Peterson, who said he is experiencing pain in his mid-foot area, is scheduled to undergo an MRI on Monday after X-rays were negative. The NFL's reigning MVP said he does not believe the injury is season-ending.

Peterson was carted to the locker room after suffering the injury early in the second quarter of Minnesota's 29-26 loss.

i agree on the diving thing. nobody wrap tackles anymore. its all diving and spearing into players. i dont understand why guys dont have the skill set to wrap someone up and bring him down

It sounds ridiculous at first thought, but that statement is why the NFL will be a no-contact league sooner rather than later.

all that means is he's dumb. They are still making excuses for spearing. High or low isn't the problem the problem is purposely diving at people-period

I absolutely understand why the NFL doesn't want head shots, but knee shots should be considered just as bad. Not sure why rugby isn't going through these controversies ... maybe it's time for the NFL to talk to world rugby types. No one, for a second, would consider rugby no-contact.

I don't really know about rugby equipment, but just the cursory glances I've had other the years, they don't have the padding that NFL players do. When you've got helmets and pads colliding with another player at high speeds, that would heighten the risk of injury especially hitting a knee and contorting it to an angle it normally wouldn't be at.

The less padding, the less likely it is for someone to use themselves as a projectile object.

Players today are basically wrapped in Styrofoam and they can run 4.4 while in it. They turn themselves into human projectiles and throw themselves at offensive players. I've been on the side that says to take away the ridiculous NASA grade padding these guys have and start getting back to the basics of the game. Less padding will reveal, in time, a league that gets back to form tackling and the huge crazy targeting hits.

With all that said...no matter how much padding you add or remove, knee injuries will occur. Nature of sports in general...its bad for the knees. But considering bad knees don't turn your brain into that of an 80 year old with dementia at 35 years old...I don't see the problem.

Today's NFL has players getting micro-concussed at what will be seen as a pretty alarming rate once this era of players gets to the right age. The league worries so much about the "defenseless players"...the QBs, the WRs, the CBs...the real issue is on the inside. The safeties, linebackers, linemen, runningbacks, tight ends. A ton of big impacts almost on every play.

The Junior Seau death should have been a real wakeup call to the league...a player with no diagnosed concussions over the course of a career that saw him as one of the leagues top tacklers annually (it means he was in on a lot of players) have a mush brain that yields a suicide. A suicide that comes after he self-reports that he's had countless concussions that weren't diagnosed and the enlightenment of micro-head traumas around the same time.

You aren't taking away from the real issue by putting the focus on the defenseless...the real problem is within seven yards of the line of scrimmage where you have numerous micro-concussions on every play for common play.

You can't wrap tackle because you'll get fined for helmet to helmet. I just picked up a book called attack on the game or something (it's in the other room) basically saying NFL as we know it is being litigated to death by lousy science and unfounded myths.
I'm all for softer padding and flexible helmets and limited cages.

Over protection is absolutely the problem.

Hockey without helmets was far safer than it's been with....because everyone protects their head. It's this stupid mechanism people get when they have something "protective" on, makes them feel invincible.


You can draw a parallel to the food service industry, something that drives me fucking mental....plastic gloves. Dumb ass mother fuckers put on a pair of plastic gloves and think their hands are clean all the time. They grab raw food, prepared food, oven handles, (or in places like Subway punching in transactions), etc. All because their hands feel clean and can't feel all the shit on them. You touch raw meat with your bare hands, you're sure as fuck gonna wash them before you move along. With gloves on, you're not as likely.


The psychological effect of stripping down the equipment worn will change the way the game is played. Not stupid fucking rules and insignificant fines.

Larry was spot on. The issue here is that defenders are launching themselves as projectiles at opponents. Obviously he is going to say he wasn't going for the knee but thats horseshit. All of the guys launching themselves are doing so to go after the knees. That is what coaches are telling them to do now too. I can't even remember the last time I've seen a safety make a legit form tackle.
