Rumor is Bellator matched Eddies UFC offer

So obviously the UFC low balled Eddie, they didn't match with the quickness when it was Lombard, interesting to see how it plays out

An official announcement isn't expected to be made until a legal review of both contracts is complete. Multiple sources indicated Bellator's offer was made "in good faith" and appears on the surface to match the deal previously offered by the UFC. However, it does not appear Alvarez has yet accepted Bellator's contract offer and may be seeking clarification on contract language in each of the two deals. Chief among those concerns will likely be whether or not Alvarez has the right to sign with another promotion while still operating inside of Bellator's matching period.

Zuffa threw way too much money at Lombard, because they figured he would knock out a couple of dudes in impressive fashion right off the bat and get thrown right in with Silva.

Lightweight is deep, so Alvarez wasn't going to get that kind of giant deal with PPV points. Zuffa is probably gambling that Alvarez thinks long term with the idea that if he becomes a star his earning potential will be much higher with them as opposed to Bellator, even if the initial money is close to equal. If he stays with Bellator, they will shoulder shrug it. They already dragged this out to the point that they prevented Spike from advertising him and delayed Bellator's booking.

I really don't know how to feel about it, especially since this whole matching period thing is turning sour. Personally, I would just rather see Eddie get paid because their are interesting fights in either organization.

Rebney says he matched the UFC offer, which was $250,000 up front, $70/$70 per fight, 8 fights or 40 months whatever comes first, and PPV points.

Alvarez is suing Bellator because he believes they can't match the PPV points part.

Rebney says PPV money is "theoretical", and that Bellator has matched every "real" dollar in the deal. He says they have a quarter of a million dollar check waiting for Alvarez as soon as he signs the deal. Rebney said PPV is likely down the road, so the PPV points are something they can match anyway.

Rebney says he matched the UFC deal word for word. In fact, he said they took the PDF file, changed "UFC" to "Bellator", and sent it right back to Alvarez within minutes.

This will get messy. If Bellator had PPV, Alvarez would have no leg to stand on legally. But he knows he can make more with UFC via PPV points and "under the table" bonus.

Rebney is coming off a bit slimy here, but if they can prove they intend to do PPV, Alvarez is beat.

sounds like Eddie wasn't guaranteed ppv money at first, probably has potential PPV money if he gets into a title fight or something, the UFC doesnt give points really unless its a ME on a PPV or Title fight on PPV

A UFC contract outlines the company's intent to book Alvarez for an immediate title shot in March and offer a cut of the promotion's pay-per-view profits, according to an exhibit in a lawsuit Bellator MMA filed against the fighter, a copy of which MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) today obtained.

An eight-fight deal would start Alvarez at $70,000 to show and $70,000 to win and raises in $5,000 increments with each win until it tops out at a guaranteed $210,000 for a win, the exhibit states. Alvarez would also be guaranteed a $250,000 signing bonus, payable in two installments of $85,000 and one of $80,000.

When Alvarez fights on a UFC PPV broadcast, the offer states it entitles him to $1 for each "buy" between 200,000 and 400,000 buys, $2 per buy between 400,000 and 600,000 buys, and $2.50 per buy over 600,000 buys.

Additionally, Alvarez is guaranteed a fight on a UFC on FOX card and three appearances as a commentator at UFC-branded events.

Bellator cant legally match that without at least having plans for ppv. Not sure how they can prove that.

What the courts need to sort out, is if that constitutes a true match, or just a counter.

If its deemed a counter, he's free to choose.

Sounds like Rebney was full of shit when he said he matched word for word. Thats impossible. They added shit they added shit to the deal that they hope is comparable when it comes to the things UFC offered that they dont have.

UFC put a fox fight, obviously they can't "match" that or if they said a fight in an octagon, Bellator matched what you can match

Maybe it comes down to value, don't know how you guarantee value when it comes to sponsers and stuff like that

Maybe if the UFC didn't run like the Price is Right they would pay guy real guaranteed money they would be the NFL of MMA

Benson Henderson says he just got a new 8-fight deal and he's a happy camper now.

This comes days after he tweeted about being unhappy knowing what UFC offered Eddie while he was making almost half of that number.

Bellator's attorneys said they have a big fight planned for Eddie and that there's no difference between FOX and Spike.

Judge will issue ruling later today, either allowing Eddie to fight at UFC 159 in April or this process will continue.
