Roger Gracie (2-0 MMA, 0-0 SF), a 2005 ADCC champion, finally is set to make his Strikeforce debut on May 15.

Sources close to the event told MMAjunkie.com (UFC blog for UFC news, UFC rumors, fighter interviews and event previews/recaps | MMAjunkie.com) former UFC heavyweight champion Kevin Randleman (17-14 MMA, 0-1 SF) is the leading candidate to face the grappling ace at the as-yet-unannounced show, which is likely to be hosted by the Scottrade Center in St. Louis, Mo., and air live on Showtime.

Randleman, however, is not confirmed as an opponent, and PRIDE and UFC veteran Rameau Thierry Sokodjou (7-6 MMA, 0-1 SF) is also under consideration should the original matchup fizzle.

Gracie, a second-degree black belt in Brazilian jiu jitsu under Carlos Gracie Jr., announced he had signed with Strikeforce this past December at "Strikeforce: Evolution," though his promotional debut was rumored and did not materialize on two fall 2009 cards.

Gracie, 28, is one of the most decorated grapplers to transition into MMA and made his fighting debut in December 2006 with a submission victory over Ron Waterman. He has appeared only once since then and posted a submission victory over Japanese veteran Yuki Kondo in May 2008 at World Victory Road's Sengoku Second Battle.

Randleman returned to active competition in May 2008 after a year-plus layoff due to injuries and personal problems. He fell short in his two most recent appearances: a unanimous-decision loss to Mike Whitehead this past June at "Strikeforce: Lawler vs. Shields" and a split0decision loss to Stanislav Nedkov at Sengoku 11th Battle this past November.

Sokodjou, meanwhile, is also on a two-fight slide with TKO losses to Strikeforce light heavyweight champion Gegard Mousasi (in a non-title fight) at at "Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Rogers" and Ikuhisa Minowa at "K-1 Dynamite!! 2009."

The May 15 Strikeforce event is expected to feature the return of Strikeforce heavyweight champion Alistair Overeem as he takes on the hard-hitting Brett Rogers. Another heavyweight match-up pitting Antonio "Bigfoot" Silva against former UFC heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski is also expected for the card.

Gracie’s debut is slated for the televised portion of the May 15 event.

From a pure sport perspective, I have a huge problem with Rogers getting a title shot, when the last image of him is lying dead on the mat after getting Fedor'd.

I understand it's an entertainment business first, but it still annoys me.
 
^ i agree it doesnt make sense for Rogers to get a title shot, but Strikeforce cant sit there twiddling their thumbs waiting for Fedor, gotta throw someone in there against Overeem. personally I think Overeem smashes him and smashes him quick. i still dont believe Overeem-Fedor is gonna happen anytime soon, too much shit going on with those fighters all the time.

Yeah, they finally have a chance to get Overeem in the cage, so they have to strike. They really have no one else. Maybe Bigfoot? Boredum? I dont know. MIght as well be The Grim, but I still hate it. Even though I hate Overeem, i'll be rooting for him out of principle, and then just hope Fedor (or whoever else is next) smashes either one of them.
 
Couple issues, they never wanted Fedor vs Overeem for Fedor's first and 2nd fight, Overeem hasnt fought in the states for years, so they need to have him atleast be seen once before fighting Fedor

They want to have a PPV and the headline fight be Fedor vs Overeem, also people have been talking about Overeem and the juice, so they want him to pass a test first before lining up a PPV and not having a Barnett situation

Fedor had 3 fights which are legit in SF before he signed, Overeem, Rogers and the winner of Werdum/Big Foot, so Overeem fighting Werdum would risk a good potential fight for Fedor, I dont like that Rogers is 'getting a shot' at the title before Fedor, but lets be honest, Fedor's name is the title, not the SF HW belt at this point, until they are merged, Fedor is seen as the champ

Rogers can throw a huge wrench in the plans, so this fight is a big risk, as much as Overeem has improved, he still folds when he gets hit hard and Rogers hits hard, Rogers will have some of the toughest 3 fights in a row now, AA, Fedor and Overeem

After Fedor fights Rogers, Werdum and than Overeem, the next fight would be a Lashley if he can get a big win or an AA rematch I would think

I don't really care that Rogers gets the title shot. The belt's been around for over two years and hasn't been defended once. It means nothing.

Either way, whether Overeem wins or Rogers wins, SF should be happy. If Overeem wins (and they can get him to return), they have a big heavyweight fight people will want to see.

If Rogers wins, they have the rematch between Fedor and Rogers, assuming Rogers knocks out Overeem, he'll talk it up, too.
 
Oh man..who in there right mind wants to watch Werdum do anything.

I have no faith in Overeem but the guys fun to watch. What a sham of a title fight but oh well Fedor will fight soon.
 
It still amazes me when fans hold an org like Strikeforce to the same standard as the UFC, the UFC generates so much money and is probably the most expensive sporting 'league' to follow. Strikeforce is doing this without ppv money, bringing in champs from Japan and the most you currently pay is for showtime which you don't even have to keep and its not a one shot deal

When/if Strikeforce does a ppv it better be stacked because now you are asking fans to pay top dollar for these fights, these Showtime and CBS cards are 'stacked' when comparing them to what is offered on ppv

If the UFC feels they are the top org which they are, they should be held to a higher standard

Roger confirms Randleman fight May 15

Roger Gracie will make his May-15 StrikeForce debut against Kevin Randleman, the Gracie just confirmed to GRACIEMAG.com.

“I should head to New York about three weeks before it, to do prep-work at Renzo’s academy,” added the current world absolute champion of Jiu-Jitsu.

The black belt has two MMA wins on his record, one from 2006 and the other from 2008, in contrast to the American wrestler’s 31 MMA fights, with 17 wins and 14 losses.
