Sharper will hit Free Agency

Damn I really wanted him to finish up with the saints. Looks like we are going safety at some point in this draft. Sucks because Sharper didnt look like he was on the decline at all.
 
I just don't think the Saints are willing to cough up that kind of coin. He could still re-sign with the team, just not at the $6M or so it would have taken to put the franchise tag on him.
 
He'll be a Saint. He said just last week that he wants to stay in New Orleans, but wanted a multi-year deal instead of getting franchised.

Gregg Williams' system is perfect for him. He knows it, and the teams knows it. They'll get something done.
 
This doesn't mean FA necessarily, they saints still might work out a deal with him before FA, they just dont wanna pay him 6mill for 1 season
 
Smart move by Saints. This past season was an anomoly for a player of his age. Chances are he won't repeat the feat next year.

Maybe when Malcolm Jenkins started, but Porter and Greer only gave up a combined 1 TD. GRANTED they were injured this year.

Greer played like a top 5 CB this past season (Seriously) and Porter is turning into a playmaker is his own right. Saints are making a good decision here. They can either move Jenkins to FS if they believe he's too slow to play CB or pick someone up in FA, either way, Sharper is not going to play up to the dollars he'd be getting with the Franchise tag.
 
Although ESPN.com and NFL.com are reporting that the New Orleans Saints will not use the franchise tag on free safety Darren Sharper, Saints GM Mickey Loomis says he's not ready to reveal the Saints' plans for the Pro Bowl free safety.

Sharper, an unrestricted free agent, could pursue offers from other teams if the Saints to not apply the franchise tag to him.

New Orleans Saints GM Mickey Loomis isn't commenting on the reports, and will only say that the team will release details of any arrangement(s) with Sharper when the time is right.

"We know what we're going to do, we're going to keep that information... close to the vest," Loomis told WWL. "I don't like talking about contracts, I think it's a personal issue for players. It's a business issue for our team, but it's a personal issue for our players, and I want to respect that."

Again, Sharper will be back. It probably won't be under the franchise tag. But I'm pretty confident he'll be in black and gold next season.

Lots of good safeties. Hometown kid Chad Jones at the end of round 2? If Sharper doesn't return that is.
