Shea Weber to San Jose?

This is complete speculation, but I was just in downtown Los Gatos and saw Doug Wilson, Todd McLellan, Shea Weber, and an Asian guy close to Weber's age get out of a car and head into a steak house.

I find it hard to believe that Weber just happens to be in town and these guys just know each other. No doubt they're talking a deal, no? I know Weber is a restricted FA but apparently he is really unhappy about Suter leaving.

Edit - asian guy is not Weber's agent, Weber's agent is Kevin Epp who is a gringo.

Could be interesting to watch, as there hasn't been a true top flight RFA leave his team. Though for a desperate GM like Wilson, this could be his last grasp at keeping his job and he might not care. That, and RFA rules could change next season.

This would really suck for Nashville, to lose both Suter and Weber in the same off-season. There isn't anyone who can step in and immediately take those minutes at 80& of Suter and Weber, much less replace both at 50 minutes a game that they play combined.

Yes and there is draft pick compensation based on the annual amount on the deal.

With most teams, they have the ability to match the RFA offer sheet. However, the Predators could be a different case, but one would think that ownership will have to stop the bleeding and match any offer that Weber receives from a team. They can't let yet another player get away, not just this off-season but as a franchise.

I'm pretty sure its actually tampering if they discuss any contract details while he's an rfa for another team.

Guys on HFboards are saying it's not tampering because he's an RFA and he is allowed to sign an offer sheet, Nashville would just have to match it.

I think it's similar to how the Sharks signed Hjalmarsson to an offer sheet a few years ago and the Blackhawks had 7 days to match it or they would lose him for a 1st and 3rd round pick. Hawks matched it, obviously.

With SJ only having 6.2 million in cap space they'd need to move players to even offer the offer sheet, so I don't think anything will happen. More importantly, what steak house was it?

They'd have to send Boyle back. Nashville would get two 1sts, a 2nd, a 3rd, and Boyle if Weber were to sign a 1 year deal with San Jose. If the Preds match it then Weber is a UFA next season and he can walk without the preds getting anything for him.

With one of the weakest pools of prospects in the NHL and a GM that keeps trading away prospects like Charlie Coyle I dunno if that would be the best position for the sharks.

Not only that but that's a lot to give up for somebody that is not guaranteed to sign after 1 year.

Still, a player like Weber doesn't come around often.

A sign and trade would work and would really benefit both teams but thats really not the direction the sharks should go. Although it's one of those things where like the hawks you spend now and try to win a championship and worry about the problems later.

If Nashville could get a similar package to what the Wild got (in this case it would have to include two first rounders) and the preds feel Weber isn't signing it might be the way to go for them.
