"Sixth Man" of the Year?

I was watching the Mavs-Cavs game today and they started talking about Jason Terry and how he will win the Sixth Man of the Year award. Jeff van Gundy starts saying Terry shouldn't win it because he's not really a Sixth Man or a bench player (the qualifications for Sixth Man is that you can not start in half of the games during the NBA season)... he's probably the second best player on that team. He said the Sixth Man of the Year award should go to the sixth best player on a given team. He also said Manu shouldn't have won Sixth Man last year either (considering he finished Top Ten in MVP voting and that he played starter minutes, just coming off the bench).

So, here's the question: Who's the "Sixth Man" of the Year? In other words, who is the best sixth best player on any team in the NBA?

yeah i heard that today, and its true terry or ginobili shouldnt be able to win, since terry has started before in his career and even last year i think, and i didnt know manu finished top 10 in mvp voting, but if he did then deff shouldnt of got it, but they do come off the bench regardless so idk

From the NBA's own website, to win the 6th man of the year a player only has to have come off the bench in more games than they started in a given season. There's nothing about how many minutes a guy plays or whether he's really his team's best (or 2nd best player) or whether he was a full-time starter in seasons past.

So yeah, Terry will probably win the award (& deserves to).

Not to mention the amount of people mentioned that dont even fit the criteria, and are just the same kind of thing Terry is. Theres no fucking way Nate Robinson is the the 6th best player on the Knicks, or AK47 on the Jazz. And definitely not Corey Magette.

i think the main reason is just because of how big he was in the playoffs, and also there was to consider who he was playing for. It was mainly set up for him to get all the attention, especially after a solid defensive showing in the finals that literally heightened his worth like x 3, but now its just kind of back to normal with him.
