So... What's wrong with Jason Campbell?

What's wrong with him, exactly? I don't quite understand it. People constantly talk about how bad he sucks, but I'm not seeing it. He's not Peyton or Drew, but I just don't see him as terrible, I mean looking straight at stats.

I'm not saying he's amazing, but I don't watch the Redskins, so what ever is so bad about him? Like, he seems decent, if not astounding. It's not like they're paying so much money for him, and he doesn't seem to be the reason they're not winning that many games... Is he?

I mean, I honestly don't know that much about this, so this is an honest question. No sarcasm here. I just need to figure out what this is about...

Simple case of stats don't tell the true story. He causes many WTF moments in games, and looks straight foolish out there sometimes. He is capable of making big plays but it doesn't seem like he will ever reach his full potential as he hasn't improved much the past few seasons.

In 4 years, he hasn't shown any flash of brilliance whatsoever. He has good games here and there, but he has been very sub-par for the most part and hasn't done anything to show that he has that intangible thing that great qb's have.

he has not had the same offensive coordinator for more than one year, he lacks any kind of field vision and his accuarcy is just about 2 levels ahead of j-russ out in oakland. but he can roll out like there is not tomorrow so shanny will love him.

I've never understood how Campbell went in the 1st round to begin with. I was watching the Auburn-Northwestern bowl game, and during the game they had a graphic which said the current Auburn QB (who was awful) held all the school passing records...including the single-season TD record with 21. I thought it must have been a mistake, because there is no way Jason Campbell threw less than 21 TD passes his senior year. But look at Campbell's college stats (at the bottom of the webpage)...

The guy averaged less than 1 TD pass per game in college...thats unheard of! Even the worst 1st round QB pick in recent memory, Kyle Boller, averaged almost 2 TDs per game.


As for his NFL career, he's really not THAT bad, but he's terribly inconsistent. But he's inconsistent in a weird way...meaning he'll play great against a top defense like the Giants, but then he'll go 12 of 40 against the Lions.

Obviously many of you have never watched a full Redskins game.

Campbells stats aren't god awful, but many fans who watch the games can't believe the stats. I know I can't.

If you were to watch a full game with Jason Campbell at the helm, you would see..

1. atleast 3 wide open recievers overthrown.
2. atleast 1 dumb mistake by Campbell (Throwing across line of scrimmage, running back 20 yards and then getting sacked, etc)
3. atleast 1 interception which is perfectly thrown to the DEFENDER.
4. atleast 1 fumble

Keep in mind, this is all in one game.

Yea, a sack is an oline's fault. But I would argue that the QB fumbling the ball is not. Go down, and hang on to the football.

I couldn't find video of it, but in the final game against the giants this year, when the skins got blown out, the skins ran a RB screen play. Campbell OVERTHREW the RB (Quinten Ganther), even though he was 5 yards in front of him for a pick 6


There was also the time where not only did campbell throw the ball ahead of the line of scrimmage, but he tried throwing it while he was past the first down marker. This was a year or two ago. Made ESPN's top embarassing plays.


Campbell doesn't have common sense when it comes to football. He locks into a reciever, and it doesn't matter if he's throwing into double or triple coverage, he's going to throw to that reciever.

Jason Campbell is a middle of the pack QB he is not as sorry as Jamarcus Russell nor is he as great as Drew Brees. He is a servicable QB tho but what separates Jason Campbell from every other QB in the league is dating back to his senior year in high school he has had the same offensive system only once in 9 years and counting Shanny's system will be 10. So his development has been hindered dramatically but he has still been able to win the starting job every year. It's like this it's kind of hard to be a great musician when every year your changing instruments he can't master one instrument he doesn't have it long enough. This is a problem in it's self not including the o-line problem this year the Redskins have had 11 different starting combinations this season alone front office decided to ignore the o-line in last year draft. This is a hella stat here did you know the Redskins have only drafted two o-linemen since 2005 and neither are starters and one no longer plays for us. That is a fucking joke in it's self main reason the GM was fired and a new staff was hired & Dan Snyder has taken the backseat and let real football minds run the organization. The most impressive thing to me is Jason stats get better every year without very good talent & coaching around him. Let's see what Shanny can do for him.

All of the damage he does in Washington is out of the most simplistic stuff. His deep ball is horrendous.

I have to disagree i understand that the stats don't tell the whole story and he does make bad decisions at time they all do from Farve to Jamarcus Russell. If his decisions were so bad wouldn't he be ranked at the bottom 5 in stats. I understand you might not like him & all but let's real here. Jamarcus Russell the sorriest QB in the NFL you have stats to prove that completion percentage, TD to INT ratio & all that Jason Campbell is in the middle of the pack. Rex Grossman was servicable enough to take Chicago to the Super Bowl so is Jason better or worse that Rex?

Rex at least showed the ability to make dynamic plays in the passing games. Jason hasn't shown that.

Campbell is a hard worker. He'll never be confused with the Jamarcuss or Leafs of the NFL as a lazy asshole. He's a good guy.

The problem isn't his work ethic/attitude, it's simply the fact that he doesn't have the talent at the NFL level to be a starting QB. He cannot read a defense, he cannot find open receivers, he has no touch on his throws, and worst, he's not a leader in any way. The complete lack of an offensive line exacerbates these issues of course, but I don't think a middle of the pack OL would fix his issues. Aaron Rodgers is a good example. The OL he worked behind this year was probably worse then what Campbell had and look what he accomplished. It also makes things even harder when there's no running game to take pressure off of Campbell.

Campbells stats are empty. A lot of those numbers come after the Redskins are trailing (usually because of a mistake Campbell has made) and the defense has gone into prevent. I've had the pleasure of seeing this time and time again. And every time it pisses me off that the skins spent so much to trade up to get him.

All that being said, none of the QBs in this years draft are worth a 4th overall pick and none of them will make it through a season behind the skins current OL. It's a shitty problem the skins put themselves into by completely mishandling their drafts the last few years and trading away picks for shitty players and then signing those shitty players to dumb contracts. Shanny has quite the rebuild project on his hands.

I just said Rex had the ability to make the big play down the field in the passing game so comparing Grossman to Campbell in their ability to take a team to a Super Bowl doesn't hold water. Which is why I bolded the part of the statement that I did. Some of Rex's big plays during that 2006 season and playoff run helped that team get to the Super Bowl. Campbell hasn't shown the ability to have those explosive plays. That's the point. Campbell would have to make the Super Bowl on a team with a great running game and a dominant D where he has to make no plays down the field. More like a Trent Dilfer during that Ravens run.

1. The difference is Aaron has IMO the best receiving corp in the NFL. Jennings, Jones, Finlay, Driver, Nelson & etc. You can't compare the two receiving corps Randle El, Moss, Thomas Kelly, Cooley & Davis. Like you said the run game has helped the Packers.

2. A lot of games were close games Dallas won by 1, Philly by 3, Chiefs by 3, Saints by 3, Lions by 6. Those games were close field goals would have most of them they couldn't afford to play prevent dfense like that.

I am convinced you are just looking at some stats on a website and making statements rather than views from actually watching games.


No one in their right mind after watching all 16 redskin games would say Campbell is anywhere near top 25 in the league, much less top half.
