They say it will be similar to Paper Mario RPGs in that it is turnbased, but button presses during an action have major impacts on the fight itself.

Yeah, Patrick Klepek was saying on the Giant Bombcast that it is apparently modeled after the earlier Final Fantasy games. Fuck that.

You realize there is little to no difference between a typical Action RPG (like say, Deathspank or Diablo) and a typical Turn-Based RPG?

Uh, yeah there is. I enjoy actually controlling my character when I fight an enemy. Not "enter a battle" and let my stats determine what happens as I watch basically a cut scene.

You control them in the same exact way though. You aren't performing a combination of buttons, you're repeatedly mashing the "A" button to attack over and over, and if your level isn't high enough you die. There is a strategy element that is pretty much the same in both, the only difference is one is faster and one is slower. Your stats determine everything in both games.

But this is an argument that you've failed to grasp before so...yeah.

I'm not the biggest fan of Turn Based RPG's but there are a few exceptions like Final Fantasy 7 and 8. But Twigg this is fucking South Park.

Yeah, it's a shame. Since Seth wanted to mention it, if this game was like DeathSpank or Torchlight or Dungeon Hunters, plus South Park, I'd be all over it. But I don't care what the license is, I have absolutely no interest in that style of game. I literally despise and loathe these games. Final Fantasy 7, which is supposed to be on the greatest games of all time, made me want to gouge my eyes out.

Either way "you are doing it" whether it's turn based or live action. Either way "it's determined by a computer and fucking numeric calculations"

When you shoot a ...fuck i dunno....locust in GOW. Do you not understand your bullet registers a numerical value reducing that creature's total number until you pump enough numbers into him where his is zero, then an animation triggers showing you it's dead.

Much more is CPU dice rolls than most players see, clearly the devs don't want to advertise this.

The NHL devs admitted their game generates a random sequence of "events", so that on the 7th shot, it will break a stick, the 14th shot, will be a goal from the CPU, the 6th body check, will be an injury.

Tell me how much control I have when this is the game I'm playing?

Go read our current generally discussion thread in my Madden league where we're discussing games where the CPU is just juiced for one side, we all see it, most people don't understand why for a variety of reasons.

I'm telling you, you'd be very surprised if the actual details of how these games work was public knowledge. I know what I see, I understand programming logic, I'm able to see it for what it is.

The bottom line is that even though the AI/CPU controls what is going on, it doesn't control me. So even when the CPU is going robo in Madden, it still doesn't know that at the last possible second I'm going to it that spin move. In DeathSpank the CPU doesn't know if I'm going to block, use magic or flee. Sure it can alter it's strategy on the fly but it still can't 100% predict my actions. Whereas in these shitty JRPG's, 100 fucking percent is controlled by the CPU and the in game stats and you just sit back and "enjoy the ride", or vomit in your mouth in my case.
