The "Barnes" Brand

Failed tremendously...when they needed their "best" player to step up, Barnes came up incredibly small...such hype around him coming out of HS, he's nothing more than jump shooter who can't create his own shot.

Barnes' departure will make UNC a better team next season.

Barnes is the typical HS phenom who doesn't live up to the hype in College but is stil a Top 5 pick. He will not take over in the NBA like everyone first thought. He is a player who will be a better pro than collegiate player.

And why is he a top 5 pick?

He's a 6'8" spot up shooter...he can't create off the bounce...his best move is a 1,2 dribble pull up jumper...what Barnes will benefit from is a much needed post game...he's a big 6'8" with long arms, with his lack of foot speed and quickness, a post game would help him immensely...but him leaving UNC would take the black cloud away from them as well...his stock is dropping

He certainly hurt his stock, but he's still a lottery pick. However, he obviously will need to play with a good PG that has the ability to get him open shots. I wouldn't draft him expecting him to be a franchise guy....he'd make an ideal high caliber role player on a good team. The one-and-done rule really cost him a lot of money.....same with Perry Jones.

Steven Smith that played for the Hawks, Heat? Smith was actually a PG who could actually create his own shot, as he could actually handle the ball. As Mo said Barnes basically has one move which is dribble to the left and pull up for a mid-range jumper other than that he is a catch and shoot player. I see Barnes as being more like Glen Rice.

The point is that Harrison Barnes plays nothing like Steve Smith, as he doesn't have the ballhandling skills, and can't create create for himself or his teammates. Barnes is an off the ball scorer....Smith is an on the ball scorer.

Again, the label doesn't matter! Smith's positional label doesn't matter...that isn't the point. However, along with playing SG Smith played a good amount of PG in his NBA career. You seem to remember the older Steve Smith and not the younger Steve Smith who routinely handled the ball, got into the lane, created space, posted up, etc. Smith was by far a better ballhandler, passer and overall greater basketball player than Barnes, as I said Barnes' game more closely resembles Glen Rice, as he prefers to spot up and catch and shoot.

No, I'm thinking of the Heat/Hawks Smith.

I never said Smith wasn't a better ball handler than Barnes. Just that Smith playing a lot fo PG didn't happen in the NBA. Maybe it happened some with the poop dick Heat but in Atlanta and onward that wasn't the case

I do like the Glen Rice thing a bit as well.

It didn't help that he was missing Kendall Marshall out there. Having Marshall out there changed EVERYTHING for UNC. Marshall has the ability to get Barnes the shots he likes and needs. Stilman can't do that.

Kind of a lame excuse, if you ask me. UNC was lucky to get by Ohio, and Barnes has kind of underachieved all year/career. For a "lottery" guy to not be able to create his own shot IN COLLEGE is pretty weak...like JJ Reddick weak. Even Wally Szcerbiak at Miami (Ohio) could lead his team to victory. Harrison Barnes is no more than a glorified sharpshooter. If he didn't get foul calls by flailing his arms, the only worth to his team would be his outside shooting.

Not using it as an excuse. He didn't show up, plain and simple. They should have lost to Ohio, no doubt. But losing marshall did hurt him. These few games that he played bad override the games that he's played great in and won for UNC over the past 2 years?

Harrison Barnes is 19 years old still. He came back to help his team, he did not have too. His FG% and 3point% both went up. His ppg went up, all of the little things like footwork, post game, etc will only get better on a pro team. There is no doubt he is still a lottery pick. He had a few rough games in the tournament, but still made it to the elite 8. Only one team can win the championship and it wasn't their year. He is still raw with potential and somebody is going to snag him and be damn glad he was their for their pick.
