The future of college football?

Let's just admit this right now.

Between the abysmal BCS system and the amount of "investigations" and programs being hit hard by the whores that run the NCAA, college football has become a complete and utter joke of a sport.

You can't tell me for one second that the shit that's been going on at schools like Oregon and North Carolina isn't and hasn't been happening at other big time college football programs for years.

The NCAA is run by a bunch of hypocritical, biased, money grubbing sluts who have ruined the purity of the sport by handing out over the top punishments (Penn State) or blatantly targeting specific schools over others.

Can I prove this? Obviously not, but you have to be insanely naive to think that the NCAA has been fairly punishing and investigating the schools that they've recently been targeting.

Part of this must have to do with the amount of actual manpower it would take for the NCAA to properly investigate each and every school that isn't following the rules. I don't know how large the NCAA is what kind of power they really have, but there's no way they can sift through the amount of allegations and rule bending that goes on at every school appropriately.

Personally, I am sick and tired of the NCAA and it's really forced me to lose interest in the entire sport of college football. The rules aren't the same for everyone and the NCAA is completely biased in terms of punishments, investigations, voting, ranking, etc.

I used to love college football when I was in high school. I loved USC when Carson Palmer and Troy Polomalu were there but I was a dumb little fucker that didn't realize how much political bullshit controls the college football landscape.

As I get older, the more I despise the big time schools, the kids, the NCAA, and the more I root for Stanford.

Where do you think the future of college football is headed? Are we going to see an increase in the amount of programs investigated and punished or will we continue to see a couple programs scolded every few years?

Is it just me or are college football players and coaches getting dumber or is the NCAA actually getting smarter/better at cracking down or are they just hand picking who they want to investigate/punish and turning a blind eye to other programs?

Great point, that was something I wanted to include in that post but completely forgot about. Nothing can be hid anymore, every player in the spotlight wherever they go and with whatever they do.

Personally my interest level is at an all-time low for NCAA football. I couple it with me growing up but I've really learned to despise all it stands for.

The NCAA is terrible, but college football existed before the NCAA and will exist after the NCAA.

The easiest solution is to remove the pretense that they are "amateurs" and allow them to earn money. Pay them for practices, meetings and games and allow the major players to pursue their own endorsement deals. At the very least let them get a cut of the merch that has their number on it being sold at the campus bookstore.

This will at least remove the "impermissible benefits" from predatory street agents part from the equation, but it probably won't do anything to stop academic fraud. We are a nation of cheaters, and that is not just limited to dumb jocks trying to stay eligible. There will always be a group of students in any university trying to cut corners and stay afloat. Not much you can do about that other than employ a better compliance department.

Obviously every program, successful or unsuccessful, offers dumbed down majors for their players in order to keep them qualified. There's the "athlete track" at every program, but I would like to believe that widespread corruption on the level that we are seeing with UNC is the exception, not the rule.

As a PSU fan, CFB will never be the same for me. I used to think crisp fall afternoons in Happy Valley, blue and white uniforms, and an iconic coach with his grand experiment represented everything that was right about college athletics. It turned out that the ideals that I took pride in looking up to was the very reason why a monster like Sandusky was able to victimize kids for years without anything being done about it. The idea was noble, but the lengths went through to exucute it was irresponsible and damaging.

As far as the future, I think they'll keep printing money and the train will keep moving forward. Granted the NCAA is filled with hypocrites but they do put a product out on the field that people generally want to see. NCAA Football is still ingrained into the American culture. If people can stomach watching college football after a university was found to be harboring a child molester, I think they can easily see past universities that break recruiting and academic rules and continue to support their product.

Bowl bans and loss of scholarships are being handed out like free candy over the past few years...I prefer to take the path of an optimist, and hope that the recent allegations brought to light against a number of schools, and the ensuing penalties given to them will curb this behavior at other universities, and make for a better product down the road.

No...this is how college big time programs work and always will. You dont win conferences etc with student athletes..you win it with athletes- period..thats never changing.

its not the 1930s,40s when they brought in semi pro players to beef up teams.. I mean its not some huge scandal like that where they needed to do something to the entire landscape of college ball.

Its bad but thats just how NCAA football works, always has and always will.

I think you missed my point.. I just meant that more programs will be getting exposed, not more programs violating rules.

I agree that a lot more shit will get exposed, and I think that's a good thing. It's kinda like we've been watching an image of college football and now instead of the behind-closed-doors boosters, bullshit classes/GPAs, etc. being rumors and talking points for cynics, it's all being blown wide open. People have been hammering the NCAA and the BCS for years, so it's inevitable that now with scandal piling on top of scandal, there will probably be some sort of overhaul in how everything works.

Just gotta hope that they change for the better and not the worst.
