Daytona 500 going on right now, really liking that you can bump draft now. Still havnt seen "The Big One" yet.

That was the best Daytona 500 in years, even with the terrible delays. I really hope that when they repave the track, they still make it somewhat bumpy so the drivers slide around like they were today.

Dale Jr. showed that he is still the best active restrictor plate driver in NASCAR. 10th to 2nd in two laps. He was 18th on lap 499.

I didn't know whether to be disappointed that Junior finished second or happy that Jamie won. Great race.

Jr reminded me a lot of Sr the way he cut through the pack there at the end. I went from being pissed off at his run to ecstatic in 2.6 miles....lol

I didn't really think it was possible for him to get up there, but I knew if he got tires after the Newman wreck he had a chance if there could be a couple more cautions and restarts. When he was 10th at the beginning of the final restart, I knew he had a chance to get up there if he played his cards right. That push from Reutimann really gave him the shot he needed. If only Reut could have stayed hooked up with Junior going into 3.

That was intense..I didn't think he was going to get up there like he did. Amazing run to finish second. Would have loved to see him get past Jamie, but I'm not to disappointed.

I can't stand DW in the broadcaster booth..he is terrible.

OK, I admit it - I am not a NASCAR fan - but I am not here to bash.
Why have the Super Bowl of your season at the beginning of the year?
Seems kind of strange.
You go through that chase for the cup and what-not ... why not just hold the Daytona 500 at the end of the year?

There's no denying NASCAR's popularity, so clearly NASCAR would not suffer if the Daytona 500 was moved to October or November (not even sure when NASCAR's season ends, to be honest).

Can't blame Gordon for everyone getting together. He bumped him the first time, but that didn't cause the wreck. With the move Harvick made it was bound to end in a wreck towards the back as everyone starting shifting/bumping.

I agree, hopefully he can continue this momentum next week at California, he really needs to put together a few solid races.

It looked like everyone got stacked up after Truex tried to cut off the field and Kahne got loose and shot up the track. Anyways Im glad Team Chevy finished 1, 2.

Gordon had nothing to do with the accident really. It all started when Truex tried to throw that block on Harvick and got Harv and Biffle squirly.

When you look at all forms of racing, their biggest race doesn't fall at the end of the season. The biggest day for motorsports in general is the Sunday before Memorial Day, where you have the Monaco Grand Prix, the Indy 500 and the Coke 600. All events are firmly in the middle of the season.

The Daytona 500 is called the Super Bowl of NASCAR, but in reality it has no added significance in terms of the overall season. Jimmie Johnson hasn't finished better than 27th in the last four 500's and he's won four straight championships. It's a huge race that almost defines your career if you can get a victory, but championship wise your finish there means nothing.

Two of my favorite pieces of memorabilia are an autographed Wrangler paint scheme diecast and an autographed plaque with a piece of tire from the #3 car.

I got to be in his pit stall during two of his Talladega wins back in the day. Jumped across the pit wall and took this picture as he came down pit road after his April '99 win

Great ending to the race, couldn't believe Junior got all the way to 2nd.. maybe this is the year he finally decides to wake up. I would love to see someone other than Johnson win it. I can't stand him.

Have been since I was a kid. I was a huge Bill Elliott fan and moved onto Kasey Kahne when he took over Elliott's ride in the #9.
