Why can't teams improve to the National level? I am a Temple grad, and no matter how hard the school tries, week keep losing recruits to PSU and OSU. I mean these guys have been awesome for 50 odd years. When is it going to be time for a school like Temple to make it interesting?

Rutgers did it, but they got lucky with Ray Rice. What now? He's gone and they were in the middle of the pack last year.

I haven't heard anything about Marshall in a while, nor Miami(OH).

Thats why I lose interest, its the same damn schools every year, that are good and competing on a National level.

Exactly. If a top team loses their first game, that means they lost to Portland State or someone like that. As usual, Chodite's football anaylsis is on par with Billy Bush.

That's part of the appeal of college football... every game counts. If you lose at any point in the season you severely damage your chance at winning a national title. I think that's great.

If they eventually did a playoff the only one I'd support would be a 4-team because at least you still have that "every game counts" mentality.

It's the reason why USC has learned you can't take a game off. They underplayed Stanford and Oregon State last year, lost and never saw the title game despite ultra-talented teams.

Div 1 of course. Div II has a playoff system.

div 1 has a playoff as well...its the fcs, but even before it was that it was 1-aa which is different than div 2

I didn't know that they handed out the title already this year, and that it didn't go to Oklahoma. Who won it?

It's a lot easier to lose your first game and then get back into the discussion than it is to lose a game in the middle of the season like Oklahoma did last year, Florida a few years back, etc.

Most of the teams good enough to win a NC don't schedule tough games as their first game. They schedule schools like northwest idaho city college.

Real reason college football sucks is the preseason polls.

I am not sure correlating one team winning a national championship game after losing their very first game in the last 25 years makes their rationale for crowning a championship flawed.

It is flawed, but that isn't the reason why.

Should Oklahoma go undefeated the rest of the way, win their conference...they'll play in the title game barring some other team having a more impressive resume. Now, if they win the championship game, there breaks your streak. If they lose the title game...uh...I guess we're at 26 years?

Obviously, you are going to need some help and to be strong the rest of the season, but of course you are going to need that when you start out at a disadvantage.

It's probably safe to say Oklahoma won't play in the championship game this year, but that has more to do with their starting QB being hurt, then it has to do with the loss to BYU.
