There apparently was a suggestion on the St. Louis side that the Brewers were relaying signals from second base to hitters in the fifth inning, when they broke through for five runs against Chris Carpenter, who had dominated them for five innings. It's not against the rules to relay pitch signs but if the other side suspects it, confrontations can ensue.

Chris Carpenter is the dirt worst. We joked in the chatbox during that inning that there would be some sort of excuse, and like clockwork, Carpenter never fails to disappoint. If Carpenter doesn't pitch well someone must be cheating. Slick balls, firework smoke, stealing signs, it's always something.

LOL. The Brewers didn't have a runner on second base until Greinke's bunt in the fifth inning. At that point Carpenter had already given up three straight hits.

I assume TLR had a little too much to drink before the game, leading him to start blacking out and think the lights were dim.

Carp has been pitching good as of late, but he hung several curveballs in the 5th. Not sure what stealing signs would have had to do with that.

So LaRussa claims they weren't throwing at Braun, despite not going once, but TWICE at his head, after the first attempt missed. All because Pujols got hit the inning before, as if the Brewers would have hit Pujols on purpose in the middle of a rally in a tie game.

LaRussa claims they weren't trying to hit Braun, but only trying to send a message. If that's the case, why the second pitch? Didn't the first brush back send the message?

Similar situation occured vs the Reds, when the Cards threw a hissy fit because Pujols was hit by Cordero, which ended up loading the bases in the 9th of a close game. If these teams were throwing at Pujols, I'm certain they'd be picking better spots. LaRussa seems to think teams aren't allowed to pitch Pujols inside.

LaRussa is a bitch. I remember Fernando Vina "fainting" whenever a ball came near him in an attempt to have the umpire award him first base. So its amusing to me that LaRussa teaches his players to simulate getting hit by a pitch, but then complains when they actually get hit.

Pretty obvious the Cardinals were tying to hit Braun, but if a player or manager admits that they'd certainly face a suspension. Thought that was pretty obvious.

And throwing inside to Pujols isn't the issue, throwing high and inside is and deserves retaliation. Pujols just missed several weeks due to a broken wrist, keep the ball away from Pujols' head/hands or expect to pay the price. However, I thought the cardinals hitting Braun in that situation yesterday was foolish, they should have waited until today's game to retaliate.

Plunking Braun one pitch after they brushed him back was bush. I can't be defended. They were gong to throw at him until they hit him.

Two instances now this season where Pujols was hit late in a close game, to load the bases (!), and the Cards overreact. If Tony wants to plunk Votto in a tie game in the 9th to load the bases, be my guest.

Obviously hitting Pujols wasn't intentional. But they still hit him.

Motte missing after going after Braun the first time was pretty funny.

I did like how Braun didn't act all bitch made about it. He took the plunking and went down to 1B. The ump seemed more fired up than Braun did.

However I disagree that Motte threw at Braun's head once, let alone twice. I think he was clearly trying to hit him in the back/body both times. Warner is overreacting with the "throwing at his head stuff".

Also props to Fielder for keeping him teammates from spilling on to the field. That's how baseball is played, whether you want to call it an unwritten rule or whatever. You hit my star player, we hit yours, now let's move on.

Same thing happens in other sports, just in different ways. Take hockey for example, if someone takes a cheap shot at your star player, you can bet the team's enforcer is going after him at some point to retaliate.

LaRussa is arrogant and a hypocrite at times, I won't disagree. However, regardless of what LaRussa said after the game, the purpose wasn't just to send a message, it was to hit Braun. After Motte missed the first time, he threw a him again, as expected. And I disagree that Motte was throwing at Braun's head. The first attempt was just above the belt, and the second attempt hit Braun in the shoulder, probably a little higher than he hoped to hit him.

Teams can throw up and it to Pujols all they want, but if they miss too far high and up, their star player should be prepared to pay the price, intentional or not. Throwing inside is one thing, throwing up and in is another story because that's how guys get seriously injured.

Completely disagree.

The first pitch was belt high. The second pitch hit him in the mid to upper back.

I don't think Motte had any intention of throwing at Braun's head...or anywhere near it. I have to think if Braun had his head thrown at twice he would have reacted more outwardly.
