Tigers acquire Infante and Sanchez from Marlins

The Tigers acquired Omar Infante and Anibal Sanchez from the Marlins, Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports tweets. The Marlins will acquire Jacob Turner in the deal, MLB.com's Joe Frisaro reports (on Twitter).

Yes, it seems that way. I don't think they trade Stanton, especially not in their own division. I would love to get Hanley Ramirez for the Orioles, as it would help out our infield issues right now, and next season they can decide what his "permanent" position should be. Though I think Josh Johnson may be the next to go, but essentially everyone else that they have on the roster are players who still have service time, so expect them to be tough negotiations.

This is a good deal for both sides I think. The Tigers 2B have hit a combinated .201 so far this year, so Infante provides a nice bat there, and Sanchez is decent.

It is funny how much the Marlins were hyped before the season due to the signing of Reyes, Buehrle and Bell[lol]...and here we are on July 23rd and they are mailing it in trying to get ready for next year

The only problem is that Ramirez seems to really want to play short, which he's awful at. And the O's have Hardy who's been pretty good for them

Hardy's struggling with the bat all year but he's still one of the better defensively. Ramirez could play 3B to finish out the year, and the Orioles could look at him as a 1B or DH next year. Ramirez is not going back to short any time soon, as most other short stops would need to take a step in the opposite direction to account for his lack of range.

Whatever the Marlins assembled...it ain't working...they tried to go over the top, get Reyes, move Hanley, grab some SP and make a big splash in grabbing Ozzie...but, whatever that was...has not worked.

I can imagine them just getting rid of everything except Big Mike, who is still young as hell, and rebuilding. Moving Anibal and Infante for Turner and prospects is the start of that.

Eh, I thought they improved the club enough to at least contend. I thought they should have traded Hanley. He's just a cancer. Talented, but lazy and a guy that divides a locker room. LoMo and Gaby (especially Gaby) have not played well all year, Reyes has been streaky, Buck is trash.

Stanton has been a stud, and strangely, Boni has been a terror on the base paths when he has been healthy. Outside of Infante's early season boom period, that has been about the extent of their offensive success...Stanton (obvious) and Boni when he is healthy...the rest, streaky or simply haven't shown up.

Pitching...Heath Bell has been a legitimate disaster. JJ hasn't shown up. Zambrano is ehhhh. Nolasco is Nolasco. They were getting good seasons from Buerhle and Anibal for 2-3 starters. But the pen - especially Bell - has been again, shit outside of Cishek and Choate.

Nothing has come together for the Fish this year...nothing.

This trade was absolutely perfect for the Tigers. Infante is a good all around 2nd baseman, and puts together quality at bats. He doesn't walk a lot, but he's patient at the plate and makes the pitcher work a little. He's not going to make their middle infields range that much better, but there's not much you can do when you have a 3rd baseman at SS. An immediate improvement over Santiago/Raybum. Sanchez is a solid pitcher that is having a decent year but he has like 1 bad inning per game it seems where he just loses it. He gets too cute with his pitches once in awhile and it bites him in the ass.

As a Tigers fan I'm pretty happy with the move. I think Sanchez is a solid #3 starter. Good strikeout rate, decent walks and doesn't give up a lot of HRs. He's comparable to Max Scherzer, maybe a notch below Fister. He's young enough that his best seasons might still be ahead of him Obviously, that is all contingent upon the Tigers actually re-signing him.

Infante is an average second baseman, who is signed through next season for a relatively cheap 4 million. Since the Tigers were trotting out the worst 2B platoon in the majors, Infante counts as a major upgrade.

Giving up Brantley (played in the futures game) stings a little, but they did swap compensation picks, so the Tigers moved up about 40 draft slots.
