Top 10 reasons why the Bears lost

1 )Offseason – with Bears coaches wanting to select James Starks of Buffalo, Jerry Angelo instead opts for Dan Lefevour of Central Michigan.

2) Pregame – Lovie Smith elects to have Todd Collins as his #2 QB instead of Caleb Hanie. This decision basically costs the Bears two possessions in the 3rd period.

3) Cutler-Hester misconnect early in the game on a corner route that might have been a TD. The idiot announcing crew of AikBuck said that Cutler overthrew the pass, but it looked like Hester once again ran a horrible route, cutting too sharply to the sideline and not getting depth.

4) Tim Jennings was picked on all game. His clutch-and-grab routine saved a big play early on when he pulled down Jordy Nelson on a deep pass, but from that point on Terry MacAuley’s crew woke up and did not allow Jennings to maul the WRs down the field. In between giving up easy 10-yard completions, he was flagged several times.

5) Urlacher intercepts, but gets tackled by Rodgers. The Bears really needed a big play, and Urlacher provided it, but it would have been nice if he could have avoided Rodgers and scored a TD. It looked like Urlacher was jogging, and Rodgers’ tackle didn’t look strong enough to trip up Urlacher.

6) The Bears’ defense only gave up 14 points, but got run over for 356 total yards. Not only did they allow the Packers to control the game, the Packers always won the field position war and pinned the Bears offense with several coffin corner punts. Hester was a non-factor.

7) Tramon Williams had difficulty catching punts all day, and when he caught a punt on a bounce and was immediately blasted, he fumbled and the Bears had a chance for a big play and immediate field position. But they could not recover the ball.

8) While he was in the game, Cutler made a horrible decision to lob the ball up to Johnny Knox, which resulted in Sam Shields’ first INT of the game. The Bears offense had made some headway by using Forte on short passes, yet Cutler decided that Johnny Knox was good enough to fight for the ball despite being covered.

9) Late in the game on a 3rd and 3, the Bears waste a timeout, then, with so much money invested in Matt Forte and Chester Taylor, they decide to run a high school jet series end around to Earl Bennett, which was immediately stuffed. Ridiculous call.

10) Bears win the toss…and decide to give the ball to the Packers to start the game.

While I agree throwing a jump ball to Knox is dumb McCauley's crew blew that call anyways...even after they reviewed it. The ball clearly hit the ground and clearly came loose.

The officiating yesterday was terrible at best but we all kind of expected that when we saw what crew was going to have the game.

its easy to look good when you play the seahawks, but the fact is the bears are average and it showed.

i didn't think the officiating was that bad. They looked the other way on a lot of holding on the interior line, but that was true for both teams. I

I thought the intentional grounding call was lame because they didn't throw the flag immediately, but Hanie did throw the ball to the one area of the field in which there were no receivers.

And while people were bitching about the roughing-the-passer call on Peppers, its important to note that Briggs also hit Rodgers in the head with his fist on that play. After that play, Rodgers was pretty much done for the game.

And while people were bitching about the roughing-the-passer call on Peppers, its important to note that Briggs also hit Rodgers in the head with his fist on that play. After that play, Rodgers was pretty much done for the game.

Rodgers wasn't the same after that hit. It really limited McCarthy's play calling, and forced him to go a little conservative.

Props to GB's defense.

Tried to think of a way to fix this statement. But instead, I'll just say that it's quite unclear that the ball came loose. That's why it wasn't overturned.

Hanie wasn't even on the 45-man active roster when this game started. The NFL has an obscure rule that allows a team to declare one of its inactive players as an emergency third quarterback. He is actually called the 46th player.

When the Bears activated Hanie with 57 seconds left in the third quarter, they had to deactivate both Jay Cutler and Todd Collins, and neither could return to the game. The interesting part of this is that if the Bears would have waited to do this until the first play of the fourth quarter, both Cutler and Collins would have remained active and could have returned to the game.

Myself and all the Packers fans I watched the game with(I'm the only Bears fan in my group back home..odd) disagree. They were fully admitting the ball hit the ground and were laughing when it was upheld knowing they got away with one. Even today I have yet to see a replay showing the ball not hitting/making contact with the ground.

Shields had the ball in his hands. Ball hit ground. Ball came loose and went to his stomach. He actually made two attempts at resecuring the ball as he was laying on the ground.

Agree with most of those. The Devin Hetser play I thought it was very clear it was a corner route and Hester ran more of an out. I thought that was very big.

The kicker was McCauley missed two calls on that play:

1. It wasn't a pick.

2. Knox touched Shields on the helmet as he went to the ground. That means the return should have been negated.

McCauley's crew can't have it both ways.

For the sake of arguement if they think Shields pick was clean Knox clearly touched his helmet as Sheilds fell to the turf. That would make him down by contact at the 1 or so.

If they ruled that Knox hadn't touched Shields down because when Sheilds was touched he hadn't firmly secured the football yet then that means the interception never occured as the ball came loose after it hit/touched the ground.

On top of that Pereira thought it was pretty clearly incomplete and at worse Shields would be down by contact at the 1.

The ball touched the ground, but it was in his possession. It didn't come loose, it didn't come free of his hand until he began to roll over.

As for the placement of the ball post-interception. They did make the mistake of not placing it in the correct position. Knox tapped his helmet as he was going down with the ball.

That reverse was inexcusable. I'd almost justify it if it was a reverse to Hester or someone you know... fast. But to Earl Bennett. That's just an awful call. No trick plays on 3rd down in the 4th quarter. Especially not if the trick play makes no sense. You'd be hard pressed to find anyone even without hindsight that would make that call.

That should be enough. Pereira is never right, so what ever he thought was incorrect.

Personally, I didn't think they had enough "evidence" to overturn the INT call, but I thought for sure that they'd spot the ball at the one-yard line. That said, too many stupid rules in the NFL.

Have we found out for sure what happened with that play?

Seeing it live I saw it as Hester running the wrong route, then I looked at some replays and I couldn't really decide conclusively. He ran most of it like a corner route, unless it was a really deep out route which seems kind of stupid...

I might be wrong but it looked like a decent throw if Devin runs to the corner. IMO it looked like more indecision than anything else on Devins part. Half corner half out, then oh shit theres the ball....

Totally agree. The insight I get is how inept he was when he was head of officiating. The whole point of replay was to change egregiously bad calls...there has to be insurmountable evidence. Pereira is always giving some half-assed opinion like "It looks like the ball might have come out", and then he concludes "They have to overturn this". NO, they don't! The evidence isn't conclusive.

On a side note, Mike Pereira is my wife's 2nd least favorite person, behind Tony Kornheiser.
