Trading Block Let Down

was this disheartening or what? I was finally getting geared up for a trade deadline outside of baseball, and rumors were swirling and we get this. The best player traded is rafer alston. What happened to Amar'e, shaq, Vince Carter, richard jefferson? What happened to the Celtics actually picking up talent?

Thoroughly disappointed after this, how did you guys feel about today?

I am pissed that Jefferson is still a Buck, I wasn't expecting any other blockbusters so I can't say I'm too dissapointed

Not sure what you were expecting with the Cs. We don't exactly have much to offer in terms of talent to put out there on the market in potential trades (outside of our starting 5). No expiring contracts either to be used. Really not much they could have done.

The 3 way with the Kings and Raptors did their job by freeing up two roster spots to bring in some veteran help as well as gave us two second round picks. There's a few guys rumored to be bought out soon, Mikki Moore and Joe Smith being the two significant ones. I know it's nothing earth shattering but we could use Moore's size off the bench, or Joe Smith's veteran presence. And there's still the possibility of Marbury getting bought out.

The Cs did what they could pretty much.

As far as the rest of the league, yes it was quite disappointing to see so little movement.

Well it's not like he's staying in Phoenix. Might as well try and get a young 5 while you can.

Yeah, but they can do way better than those guys. Perkins is strictly a complimentary defensive center who only has value with the Celtics because he's our dirty work guy. Powe is an undersized power forward who would get absolutely destroyed on both ends of the floor if he had to start somewhere.

TA just plain stinks. He's never healthy, he always plays out of control, and he can't shoot to save his life. He's overrated defensively. His defensive positioning stinks. He's a decent gambler and can handle second tier players but if you expect him to D up on someone good then you're sorely mistaken.

There's just no value there whatsoever for an all-star caliber forward in Amare.

Never mind the fact that that would be a terrible fit for Boston. We need to add complimentary players, not stars.

I was talking about Ray Allen. They would need to match salaries. And I think he only has a couple years left on his deal. I think KG would have a huge impact on Amare defensively and give us the best frontcourt in the league.

Oh dear God, no that's even worse!

Do you have any idea how bad the Celtics offense would be without Ray Allen? Pierce would be the only starter that could hit an outside shot which means everyone else on defense would be able to just sag back into the paint and take away any kind of offense from Amare or KG.

No offense or anything, but that's an absolutely horrible idea.

I'm talking about down the road. I'll take a franchise 5 and point with the opportunity to learn from some vets. Allen wore down last year, what's to make you think anything is different this year? Maybe we can mid-level a shooter in the off-season and be the front runner by next year easy.

This team isn't built for down the road. They're built to compete in the next few seasons. If they weren't looking at the now they would have never traded for KG in the first place and built around Al Jefferson (who IMO is significantly better than Amare Stoudemire).

Allen was playing hurt last year. He's 100% healthy this year and putting up career best shooting numbers now that he's settled into a role in our offense. Last year he struggled to find his role in the offense because he was so used to being the main guy on offense and the primary ballhandler for Seattle. It takes a shooter a season or so to get into a groove with their new team. It's paid big time dividends for him.

And, last time I checked we're the defending champs, and still in first place in the eastern conference, so we kind of still are the "front runners".

I found it pretty dissapointing. Last year there were large blockbusters going on, on the trade deadline day. This year there were minor trades and some medium ones.

Im happy to see Alston with the Magic though. He needs a fresh start hopefully he can stay injury free and not get into trouble in Orlando. I've liked him since his Raptor days.

I was hoping that the Blazers would pick someone up with Raef LaFrentz expiring, I though that him and Outlaw would be gone for sure.

I'm pretty damn satisfied because I said that none of the rumors would happen. Amare's too valuable, VC means too much to the Nets, and Toronto trading Bosh made absolutely no sense, especially after they traded the real problem, Jermaine O'Neal. Shaq wasn't getting traded either. Didn't make sense. All of those teams still have alive seasons and can make something out of it.

Here's why you got so many trades last year: Jason Kidd wasn't cutting it anymore in New Jersey (wow... the Finals only seem so long ago for Jersey) and he talked about going to a new team, Ben Wallace for the Bulls was the equivalent of Jermaine O'Neal for the Raptors (high expectations, low results) so he got booted in a three way deal that brought in Larry Hughes and Gooden (who fittingly were traded today), the Kings were in rebuilding mode, so trading Bibby away made sense, the Suns got O'Neal for Marion, and the Lakers got a freebie after Bynum went down with Gasol. Those trades just made a lot more sense and the players moved should have been moved. There's no reason to move Amare for Phoenix, or VC for the Nets, or Bosh for the Raptors, and that's why those rumors remained rumors.

i would say the real winners of today are the Kings. They made a lot of moves that look like they could benefit them down the road. Moving Shelden Williams opens up more PT for Hawes, who is a great prospect, and Rashad McCants will finally be able to prove himself.

On the celtics front, i was hoping we could pick up another guard, because A) No one knows how the stephon marbury saga will end up, and B) Tony Allen is now out for 2 months. Mikki Moore/Joe Smith can help the team, but if their is one strong point to our bench its the PF position with Glen Davis/Leon Powe.

Rumors swirl like crazy before trade deadline hits. It happens every year.

This year was filled with teams trying to unload bad contracts to teams that would be willing to take said contracts. Not many were willing to do and that's why it seemed like not as many deals went down.

meh, what happened happened. I really wish Shaq/VC could've found themselves new homes though. Both of those guys deserve shots at the championship more than any other player who had been talked about up to the trade deadline.

I was not at all dissapointed becasue, after all all the rumors were almost imposible, as Deviant said. Chris Bosh is like, the only good player in Toronto now, Amare Stoudamire is just wasy to important for the Suns and Vince Carter is pretty much in the same situation with Chris Bosh. It would be stuid (unless you were not contending for the play offs) to do such and important trade now, because most players take a while to adjust to a new scheme both on offense and defense, and get comfortable with the rest of the players in the team. And example would be Tyson Chandler. He would be an average player in Ohlahoma untill he adjusted because Chris Paul would not be there taking extra defenders or giving him the perfect pass, therefore he would not play as well. Another thing to take in mind is that some players are great because their team mates make them great, when Pau Gasol was in Memphis he was not that good.

Your saying shawn marion is not that good? Have you forgotton about Devin harris in New Jersey? Being in the same situation as bosh as "the only good player there". I also don't understand how you can say Pau Gasol was not that good in Memphis. You must have rarely seen him play in a grizzlies uniform. He's basicly averged the same stats as he did in Memphis with LA.

I think the biggest sleeper trade was John Salmons and Brad Miller heading to the Bulls. Not because of Brad Miller though. Salmons is young and loaded with skills, he is an upgrade over Hughes for the present and the future. He is flying under the radar for whatever reason and I love that they got him for dirt cheap.
