USC Without Reggie Bush

I'm not gonna bullshit like we didn't deserve to lose what we've lost (10 scholarships for the next three years, postseason play for the next two, two 2004 and all 2005 wins). So I'm going to ask, do any of you think we could've been as successful without Reggie Bush?

Could Matthew Stephen Leinart have been a two-time Heisman winner? Would he have needed to?

Could LenDale have carried the lion's share? Or would Desmond Reed and Chauncey Washington have been able to be bigger helps?

Do you think USC would have been a capable team in from 2003 to 2005 without Reggie Bush? More than capable, do you think they would have been able to compete for the National Championship?

Ya, but people act as if there was no other talent on the roster. USC always has seemingly a hundred and one backs. And we had plenty just sitting there while Reggie was doing what he was.

Don't get me wrong, Leinart, Jarrett, LenDale, and the uber-talented defense were a major part in their championship run, but w/o Bush they don't go to the Rose Bowl and IMO I really doubt LenDale would've been the touchdown vulture that he was w/o Bush. While USC always does have a ton of RBs, I don't think a trio of LenDale, Desmond Reed, and Chauncey Washington would've been as effective and game-changing as Bush was for USC

Bush was an integral part of the offense, and more importantly, drew a lot of cover and recognition in the backfield. I'm under no allusions that USC would have been better without Bush, but they wouldn't have been horrifically off-mark.

Not anymore. The NCAA stripped USC of that too.

I think they would have still been Pac-10 contenders but i'm not sure about the national stage. They had enough depth to win games but you can't replace game changers and Bush was certainly that in college.

If we're talking without Reggie his whole career...

2004: They lose to VT in the opener, this was days after Mike Williams had been declared ineligible, and Reggie had over 100 receiving yards and 3 TD's to lead them to an 11 point win. They probably lose to Cal, who they only beat by 6, and they probably lose to UCLA, who they beat by 5 when Reggie went nuts after Leinart was shut down.

2005: Lose to ND, probably Fresno State as well. Don't remember much more of that season except coming from a few TD's down at the half to beat Arizona State.
