USFL plans to return as a NFL minor league

This is great news. This gives guys the ability to play, and get reps, at a lower level of competition, but, still have the ability to leave without much red-tape. Plus, they are playing the same game, as opposed to the Arena League which has a different set of rules, etc.

Some of those cities will work but I think it's a bad idea to have these in a team with a dominant college product like Baton Rouge. Plus it's an hour drive from New Orleans, if people want good football they can find it easily.

LOVE the idea, it's what I've wanted to see for a while. The NFL needs a true D league, and if it's run in the spring, this will smash AFL competition.

If the seasons don't overlap with PRO or College football, then why would a semi-pro team not work in the big college cities? It would give football to fans during the regular off-season.

Is this what the new USFL is planning on doing? Like the original USFL started. Or will the seasons run concurrently.

I loved the USFL, I went to a lot of Philadelphia Stars games when I was a kid. I loved that Chuck Fusina and Scott Fitzkee were on the team (PSU Guys). Also remember Jim Mora Sr as our coach, Irv Eatman, Kelvin Bryant, amd Sean Landeta. They won the first two championships IIRC, which was a big deal for us since Philly wasn't really winning shit in the mid 80's..

As far as this proposed incarnation, I could get into it. I think it would be a perfect gateway for future NFL players. Plus, I've always liked Spring football.....

The USFL was great. We had the Tampa Bay Bandits with Burt Reynolds as an owner and Steve Spurrier as the head coach. They were extremely popular because they actually won lol...during that time the Bucs were awful.

I've thought for a while that the UFL should have moved their games to spring (I know they were considering it). now if this is supposed to work like a minor league, where guys can get called up at any time, wouldn't it make more sense for this to be in the fall?

If these guys play a full season in the spring, how would they stay healthy enough to get through an NFL season assuming they actually get called up? it's hard enough for guys to get through the 20+ weeks of NFL football there is.

I understand the concern, but I just can't see a minor league NFL league being able to compete with NFL, college football, and baseball in the fall. From a business perspective, higher profit margins will be realized in the spring, throwing you into competition with the AFL, NHL, and NBA.

I doubt there will be many cases where a minor league'er gets called up to play a fulltime starting role. And if they will, they should be grateful. They've been given their chance to show their worth.
