Had the Vikings had a top 10 defense this year we could have very easily been a playoff team (loser of 5 game in the final minute). So at this point while you don't believe he's put together world beaters, he's better than what we've had.

Bengals defence is consistently top 10 and very often top 5 in pretty much every important measurable out there, and has been for years. They lost their best player half way through this year and barely missed a beat. Team is a bunch of cast offs, supposed over the hill guys and late draft picks too. It's a supremely coached defensive unit. Zimmer's track record as a DC is pretty much as good as one could ask for, for fuck sake Maynard.

Tremendous hire. Zimmer will turn that defense around and entrust the offense (which is a quarterback away from being really good), to a bright offensive mind.

Meanwhile Detroit hired a mannequin that was solely being used this year as a Rooney Rule token interview.

I really like this guy. Both times the bengals were on hard knocks he came across as a stand up, no BS, hard ass but the players all seemed to love him and played hard for him.

I hope he does well and I like the hire. Seems like Minnesota could use a disciplinarian to rebuild, especially after Childress and Frazier, who both seemed like no-personality softies.

i agree. i think he is a fine choice, i just dont think built anything stellar in cinncy. those stats you post show that. they were good, but not great. i would have gladly taken him in cleveland. but it will be interesting to see how it goes.

So, with your eyes when you were "actually watching them", I guess you didn't see them holding San Diego to a field goal twice in a row while their own quarterback was reeling. In fact whilst the Bengals O was falling apart their D was able to force the Chargers into field goal, field goal, punt in three consecutive drives where the Chargers started inside the Bengals half, including one which started on their 3 yard line. Not much else one unit could do to help a team win a playoff game.

It's a good job you watch football games without a fucking clue what you're looking at, and we can therefore shun this wealth of empirical evidence based on what you say. If someone made me bet on a match between Team A and Team B, told me nothing about who they are or their rosters but gave me two sets of analysis - one statistical, the other Maynard's stupid opinion - I would make my pick based on the former set of info.
