CASE MCCOY

HEISMAN CREDENTIALS
Colt McCoy graduated as a Texas legend, and Connor Wood led the Longhorns to a national championship last season...so to say that Case McCoy had some big shoes to fill would be a massive understatement. But in his first and last year as the starting quarterback, McCoy dazzled the nation, leading his peers in nearly every statistical category while extending Texas' win streak to an unbelievable 33 games. He finished with a QB rating of 180.4, completing 61% of his passes for 3,606 yards and 44 touchdowns, ranking #1 in the country in all of those categories. For a little perspective, Oklahoma's senior Blake Bell was the closest to McCoy's numbers, and finished 700 yards and nine touchdowns shy while throwing three more interceptions. Speaking of picks, McCoy threw just six on the season, the second-lowest amount amongsts QBs who attempted 350+ passes. And as if that wasn't enough, McCoy was also the biggest running threat in the nation, leading all quarterbacks with 962 rushing yards and another five touchdowns. All together, he racked up more than 4,500 yards and 49 touchdowns, making him a favorite to win the Heisman trophy.

Oregon's undefeated season can be credited to their 2nd ranked rushing attack, which was led by speedy senior Lache Seastrunk. He was the workhorse of the offense, carrying the ball more than any other runningback in the nation (374), yet still managed to average 6.2 yards per carry as he rushed for 2,341 yards (the only players to top 2,000 yards on the ground this season) and a league-leading 27 touchdowns. Seastrunk also racked up another 1,000 yards and three touchdowns in the receiving and return games, making him a triple-threat player who defenses simply couldn't stop.

Typically, Heisman candidates come off of highly successful teams, begging the question if they were truly a great player, or simply the benefactor of a great team. It's what makes the season Jamal Robinson had that much more special. UL Lafayette finished the season with a 5-7 (5-3) record, and senior QB Terrance Broadway completed just 49% of his passes for 2,376 yards, 15 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. And yet despite all of this, Robinson rose to the top, leading the league with 100 receptions (the only player to record triple digits) for 1,381 yards and 11 touchdowns. Broadway completed passes this season to eight other players for a combined total of 1,035 yards and 4 touchdowns, making Robinson a better target than all eight of them combined, and he did this with a below-average quarterback.
