Why the Warriors?

-Western Conference > Eastern Conference. I will see better basketball on a night to night basis. If I need to see the Heat or the Celtics or the upcoming trainwreck that will be the Knicks I can turn on ESPN or TNT just about every night.

-Late start times. I am a night owl and usually go to bed around 3 or 4am. After torturing my GF with 170 Reds games over 6 months, most of which were played from 6-9 pm central, I simply can not highjack all of my time with another team. Especially since she knows i'm unavailable to her on Sundays. The Warriors will play most nights while she is in bed.

-Fun roster. I like these guys. Curry, Bogut, Thompson, Jefferson, FESTUS, scrappy relatable white guy David Lee, Barnes, etc.

-Not a public team. If I wanted to watch Heat vs. Celtics, or Lakers vs anybody every night, I could do that via ESPN & TNT. I see enough of these teams and they bore me. If I am going to sink my teeth into the NBA, I can't really do that without watching Warriors vs Kings at midnight in the middle of January. ABC thinks there are like 8 teams in the NBA. If i'm going all in on the NBA, I can't go casual. Give me the meat & potatoes.

-This team can go either way. They might be good, they might be bad. They won't be great, but they won't be terrible. There will be good times, and bad times. This is an up and coming team growing up together. This is a team worth investing some time in. I could be getting in on the ground floor of something special.

-godspeed. Originally this was a deterrent. I wanted a team that could be all my own. But I changed my mind. Talking about the Reds here wouldn't be the same without my running mate Rudi, so I figured instead of being the geek in the basketball box talking about games only I was watching, I would pick a team where I could bullshit about the games with somebody else who gives a shit.

So here it is. My NBA thread, through the eyes of the Warriors. I used to be a die hard NBA fan, to the extent I had partial season tickets to the Nets, watched the Suns religiously, have followed the NBA casually for the last decade or so, and I am a die hard college hoops fan, so I know the game and it shouldn't take me long to catch up with the league.

Game 1 thoughts....

Does Lee ever sit? It took Jackson forever to give him a blow, even though he was playing like shit...Bogut looked great, especially for a guy who wasn't expected to play very much early on. Was a monster on the boards in limited minutes, and was crafty around the basket. Needs to build up that stamina though, he was visibly winded four minutes into the game...Curry was pressing offensively and it is clear that this team will struggle offensively when he struggles, even with all of those great shooters. Lee playing like poop too didn't help...FESTUS was awesome in his NBA debut, grabbing two boards and a steal in his first minute of play.

The Suns have a very poorly constructed roster. They remind me of some shitty 2K13 online fantasy draft team, where the guy is picking 27th, blows his first rounder on Beasley, then reaches for Scola in round two, before throwing in the towel and picking scrubs like Jermaine O'Neal to round out the roster of a team that he has no intentions of actually playing with. They are BAD, and the Warriors blew a big early lead because they couldn't handle Scola defensively. I suspect when Bogut is healthy, the interior defense will improve.

The W's have one of the most loyal and die hard fan bases in the NBA. We have endured alot of losing, but stay true.

Last Night's game was the worst the w's have ever played while still getting a victory. It was a true testament of what I thought was true about this roster, that it was one of the deepest in the nba this year. Lee and Curry were absolutely horrendous. Klay couldn't really get in rhythm. Bogut is still not ready for major minutes. Barnes couldn't get in the flow. But Rush kept them afloat off the bench like he usually does, and Landry was the player of the game. We had a bunch of players not step up, and then we still had a guy like Landry. That speaks volumes of how deep the roster will be this year. Any other year with the starters playing like that we would have getting are doors blown off by 20 pts. The starters will mostly likely never play that bad for the rest of the year, so I'm actually very happy we stole a win.

One more thing on Bogut. With not alot of reps, not alot of conditioning, the guy made an impact on the game in the short time he played. Cannot wait until he is at full stregth.

You will quickly see that Mark Jackson is one of the worst coaches in the NBA. Laughed out loud at one of his lineups with Jack, Curry, Klay, Rush and Lee for a good 6 minutes in the 3rd qtr. I mean what the hell dude. You got PJ Tucker going into beast mode because of it. Wish we could have a guy coach us like Gentry coached up a mish mashed Suns team.

Home crowd will be super hype for tomorrow, I can't wait.

The loss of Brandon Rush certainly changes the rotation. I would think Richard Jefferson would get a bump in minutes.

With Bogut sitting out back to backs, the depth this team collected in the offseason is coming in handy.

SSS, I know, but i'm surprised how much this team is struggling to score right now.

They are flat out not being coached,,,at all. Sad to see. No plays being drawn up, everything has been one on one offense for two full games. More of Mark Jackson with hands in pockets, just standing there, with the occasional chumming up with opposing players. Wait until this guy is mic'd for games Warner. Everything heard in timeouts is just all general motivational speeches. You will hear zero x's and o's strategy. Boggles your mind that someone that supposedly with a high basketball IQ isn't using it,,at all. He is outcoached pretty much every game. Look at Game 1. Perfet example. Suns with really not much at all depth talent wise, are able to run plays, move the ball around, and look like a basketball team despite some limitations talent wise. Then look at the W's team with some really good talent, and basically everything is one on one or pick and roll. It's quite sad and we are only two games in.

And you cannot have Jack, Curry, Klay out there at the same time. You just can't. Curry is such a liability on defense, and you counter that with 2 small guards and slide Klay to the 3, and you are in some big trouble. Jackson is trying to get Curry going off the ball, but dude, your lazy as a coach, come up with a better scheme to do this. Apparently this seems to be Jackson's favorite lineup mixed in with Landry at the 4 and Lee at the 5. Pretty laughable stuff.

If Jackson goes with more goofy lineups we will get throttled by the Clippers. At least with Nellie goofy lineups they would try to go small, play quick, fast pace, and try for easy baskets. Jackson's goofy lineup doesnt even do that when he goes small. I have no idea what this dude is trying to accomplish.

It's not a lineup I would use for long stretches, at least not until Bogut is healthy, but it's something I think he can and should use when they fall behind in games.

Curry is going to have to learn to find ways to score or dribble and drive. Any offense they get with that lineup is immediately negated with the horrible defensive lineup it provides. We aren't going to win games with that lineup.

Landry is balling so hard for GSW. It's not something you can necessarilly see in the stats, but he's a bull out there and isn't taking shit from anyone. Definitely one of the more underrated bench guys in the NBA.

With Curry struggling, Bogut limping around, Rush done for the season, etc you could easily make the case Landry has been the team mvp. He flat out saved their asses opening night.

Landry has been a nice player for a while, just unfortunate he's been bouncing around a bit, he's good.

I'm intrigued to see how Barnes does here...looks like he gets yanked pretty early...

Another intense greuling game to sit through as a fan. High intensity too. Loved Jarret Jack's shout out after the game.

First off, although at the end the free throw discrepancy got a little closer, but to win a game were your opponent goes to the line 52 times is pretty crazy. Some of the fouls and the calls were abolsutely horrendous. So glad they got the most important call right, the CP charge at the end of the game. The Clippers made only 8 2 pt shots in the 2nd half. The rest of their points came from the free throw or 3 pt line. Clips had a remarkable 40 pts from the line for the game, wow.

The Warriors best player by far and it's not even close is Landry. He is our mvp through three games. Lee is struggling mightily out there. Klay and Curry look like they are starting to come around though. Klay left the game with a head/face injury and never came back. Jackson DID NOT go with the Jack, Curry, Thompson trio last night, and the W's were leading wire to wire. I hope Jackson sees that and ditches that lineup asap. Barnes had two really big hoops in the 4th qtr. Jackson has to get him involved in the offense more. Jefferson had some quality minutes last night too, but he at times he tried to do too much, and we don't need him to do that. Just play a role out there and that's fine. Wer will need Jefferson and Draymond Green to fill Rush's minutes. Ezeli needs to only shoot in the paint. That's it. He is starting to drift out too far on offense. Love his defense and rebounding. Can't believe we held on to win that game, with no Bogut either. So glad we did not get pay DeAndre Jordan last year and spent all that money on him. Festus will probably be near where he is at soon or past it.

Two roads wins already for this team that historically is terrible on the road. Hopefully a sign of very good things to come this year.

The Utah Jazz are utterly unwatchable.

Anyway, these Warriors are such a hot/cold team. They fight back to tie it at 56, then proceed to fall behind 72-56.

When they don't hit 3's, they struggle to score. I know that goes for a lot of teams, but ten fold for this one.
