Wednesday Injury Report

Gonzo was in practice on Monday and now he's not again .... no idea what is up with that

The Indianapolis Colts’ players sound like they expect to go for 15-0 with starters on Sunday, and that could include three injured players returning after lengthy absences.

Kicker Adam Vinatieri and rookie running back Donald Brown are hopeful they can join the other regulars, who today said they have not been told anything different about the plan for the home game against the New York Jets in terms of resting healthy or injured starters.

Wide receiver Anthony Gonzalez, who returned to practice Monday, did not do any interviews and his status seems more in question. He’s been out since the season opener with a knee injury, but Colts president Bill Polian said on his Monday radio show he thought the receiver could return this game.

“Today, we’ll see,” Colts coach Jim Caldwell said of Gonzalez’s status, “but his road hasn’t been an easy one.”

Asked about how much work Vinatieri and Gonzalez would need to be ready for the playoffs, Caldwell said it depends on the player.

“I think in both cases this is a pretty important week,” he said.

Vinatieri has missed nine games after needing surgery on his right knee. Gonzalez didn’t make it through the first quarter in Week 1 when he went down with his knee injury, which after a practice setback required surgery. Brown, who has shared some of the backfield workload with starter Joseph Addai, has been out the last three games with a chest injury.

Quarterback Peyton Manning was among the locker-room contingent to meet with reporters for interviews and discussed at length the task of taking on the Jets (7-7). There wasn’t a hint that starters could play less because the AFC’s No. 1 seed and home-field advantage throughout the playoffs is secure.

“Coach Caldwell, as soon as he says something different in that meeting, I’m telling ya, you’all would be the first to know,” Manning said.

“It’s been about as consistent a Wednesday speech this year has it’s been all year: ‘This is what we have to do. This is what they’re very good at. We have to prepare for this and go out and do it.’ It was the same speech again today and that’s what we’re going to try to follow.”

Defensive end Dwight Freeney, who has been playing with an abdomen injury, said guys who have been playing hurt will be handled on an individual basis. But he said he intended to play. He and defensive end Robert Mathis, who has played with a quadriceps injury, were on a situational play count for Thursday’s 35-31 victory at Jacksonville.

I say Jets, because sanchez has shown flashes here and there even through being horrible most the time. revis shuts down half the field and I feel the Jets will have that same motivation the Cowgirls had, their run game is nuts too. Idk I have a bad feeling, and it could be just that, a horrible pick because its hard to go against the Colts.

yea the jets offense is bad because of the freaking turnovers, if Sanchez can manage a game right we wouldnt be in this spot. But if he plays smart this week the jets can win and they are the number team against the pass this season but Sanchez cant make mistakes and force throws like Favre.

Jets will only win if Mark Sanchez doesn't turn it over simple as that. With him not turning it over the Jets D will hold it's own and I feel they will squeak put with a close win.

10 Spot: Manning eyes 50,000-yard club

Colts quarterback Peyton Manning is not only piling up passing yards, he's passing milestones.

The next one could come as early as Sunday, if he plays long enough, when Manning will attempt to become the fourth quarterback in NFL history to throw for 50,000 yards.

If he doesn't do it Sunday against the Jets, he likely will do it the following Sunday in Buffalo. Manning is about to join the exclusive 50,000-yard yard fraternity that includes Brett Favre (68,692), Dan Marino (61,361) and John Elway (51,475).

Call it the Indy 50,000 -- with no end in sight.And there's more. Manning is on his way to his record-setting fourth NFL Most Valuable Player Award. He is trying to match the 2007 New England Patriots unbeaten regular-season mark and the 1972 Miami Dolphins full-season unbeaten mark.

By the time Manning finishes playing, it's conceivable that he could hold every significant NFL passing record, along with the title of the greatest quarterback in NFL history.

Then again, maybe he already is.

Third-Year Wide Receiver Anthony Gonzalez Placed on IR
The Indianapolis Colts have placed third-year veteran wide receiver Anthony Gonzalez on Injured Reserve, the club announced Thursday.

Gonzalez has been inactive since suffering a knee injury in Week 1 vs. Jacksonville.

Gonzalez, a 2007 first-round draft choice by the Colts, has started 12 of 30 games in his three seasons with the club, totaling 94 receptions for 1,240 yards and seven touchdowns.

“Anthony has been diligent in the rehabilitation of his knee, but it has not progressed to the point that it allow him to return to the field this season,” Colts President Bill Polian said. “We look forward to his healthy return next season.”
