Tennessee returns to Cowboys Stadium on Sunday for the first time since a 2009 exhibition game. In that game, Titans' aspiring punter A.J. Trapasso hit the video scoreboard three times during warmups and once during the game. Tennessee coach Jeff Fisher walked away that night convinced the scoreboard would regularly come into play.
Fisher admitted in a conference call today that he is surprised the scoreboard has gone untouched. Since that date against Tennnessee, the Cowboys and their opponents have combined for 132 punts in 13 exhibition, regular-season and post-season games. None of the punts has hit the scoreboard.
``We've been accused of trying to hit it in purpose,'' Fisher said. ``A.J. was trying to make the team. You don't do things like that when you're trying to make the team. I have to say I am surprised it hasn't happened again. I'm just pleased at the response by the league to come up with a quick solution in case it does.''
Any kick that hits the scoreboard results in a "do-over'' situation. The play is dead, and the ball must be kicked again from the same spot.
