WrestleMania Weekend in NY/NJ

Highspots and WWNLive.com will present the first annual WrestleCon on April 5th-7th, 2013 at the Meadowlands Expo Center on 355 Plaza Drive in Secaucus, New Jersey. This convention will feature legendary guests, vendors, $5 Wrestling and more. It will be the biggest weekend in independent wrestling history with six live shows from five uniquely different promotions. We will unveil the full schedule now.

We are proud to announce that Dragon Gate USA, CHIKARA, SHIMMER, Combat Zone Wrestling and EVOLVE will all present live events throughout the weekend. This makes WrestleCon the destination location of the year with the opportunity to see five distinct brands.

"This shows how strong and exciting independent wrestling can be," Sal Hamaoui of WWNLive, DGUSA and EVOLVE said. "It's something to see all these companies coming together. While we are all working together to make WrestleCon happen, there will be a lot of competition and pride on the line. Every promotion wants to put on the best show. This is going to make every event must see as everyone will put their best foot forward."

Friday, April 5th

Saturday, April 6th

4:00pm - CHIKARA

Sunday, April 7th
9am-2pm - WrestlExpo
1pm - Dragon Gate USA

Dragon Gate USA has been a focal point of this huge weekend since 2009. Dragon Gate wrestlers played an integral part in building this weekend for independent wrestling since 2006. The tradition will continue at WrestleCon. Meanwhile, DGUSA's sister promotion EVOLVE will hold it's first ever live card on Wrestlemania weekend.

"The Dragon Gate six man tag has been a cornerstone of this weekend since 2006," Gabe Sapolsky of DGUSA and EVOLVE said. "We will continue that standard in 2013. Having EVOLVE be a part of the weekend is a huge deal. We will make this the biggest EVOLVE card ever. I really can't wait to see what every promotion involved with WrestleCon brings to the table. This is an unprecedented weekend."

Combat Zone Wrestling is one of the longest running promotions on the East Coast. It has earned a worldwide following for its brand of ultraviolent action. CZW features it all from hard-hitters to high-flyers and the most insane death matches.

"Combat Zone Wrestling is pleased to be a part of WrestleCon," CZW Owner DJ Hyde said. "As one of the top wrestling companies in the world, we are looking forward to bringing wrestling fans our hybrid brand of wrestling. A show where fans can see it all from high-flying to ultraviolence . SHIMMER is an all women's promotion that has a rabid following. It presents the most athletic, serious women's wrestling ever seen in the United States. SHIMMER has gained it's popularity through a strong DVD series, but it has never ventured to the East Coast.

"Though SHIMMER has been primarily a non-touring, Chicago based DVD series during our first seven years of operation, we are pleased to make a rare exception to that rule come April in order to be a part of the WrestleCon festivities," SHIMMER President Dave Prazak said. "SHIMMER's participation in that weekend's events will give the dedicated wrestling fans who will be in area a fantastic opportunity to witness SHIMMER 53 live and in person. We are excited to join the other top wrestling companies which will be a part of WrestleCon to provide the fans with something different that weekend, a live all female card featuring the very best women athletes in professional wrestling today, SHIMMER style!"

CHIKARA makes wrestling fun with a one-of-a-kind style featuring great characters and tremendous action. CHIKARA has built it's unique brand for over 10 years to become very popular all over the world. WrestleCon is thrilled to add CHIKARA to this huge weekend.

The Meadowlands Expo Center is a first class facility, just three miles from the location of Wrestlemania, five miles from Manhattan and minutes from the Newark Airport. It is easily accessible from the New Jersey Turnpike, Garden State Expressway and New York/New Jersey transit.

Plus, ROH is running Hammerstein Ballroom in NYC on Friday night.

I'm flying home for the week. I think i'll play it like this:

Fri: EVOLVE, ROH
Sat: CHIKARA, DGUSA
Sun: DGUSA

On Friday, I would have stuck around for CZW if it wasn't head to head with ROH, so i'll be making the trip from the convention center to Manhattan after the EVOLVE show.

I have no interest in SHIMMER on Saturday, plus three shows in one day is asking a lot, so i'll sleep in. A CHIKARA/DGUSA double header is pretty awesome. If SHIMMER was the third show, i'd consider CHIKARA/DGUSA/WWE HOF, but there is no fucking way I miss Dragon Gate for WWE HOF.

Sunday, it's DGUSA, and maybe WrestleMania if I can get a comp or something but honestly i'm not all that interested and will probably be burnt out by that point.

I'm blowing off the expo's unless people i'm with want to go, not really interested.

Anybody hitting up the shows? Local guys? Anybody flying in?

Brother and I are going to ROH on Friday. Perhaps stop by the Wrestlecon deal Saturday (maybe Chikara, but that could be cutting it close depending on how the HOF turns out) but probably heading to the HOF. Then, Sunday is WM (convention is also running that morning/afternoon).

Waiting to see what the Mets, Yankees, Knicks, Rangers, Nets schedule shapes up that week, too, just for shits and giggles.

Yeah, I haven't even seen a venue announced for HOF. If it's at Izod, I think CHIKARA will be smart enough to end in enough time to let people make it down the street. If it's at MSG, it's a moot point because now you are talking commuting to the city and it would have to be a really short show for people to make it on time, so I think they will just run their show without concern figuring whoever they draw isn't going to HOF anyway.

Colt Cabana's $5 Wrestling promotion is also running shows, at the convention while the convention is going on.
