The story of Washington State head football coach Mike Leach is the inspiration for a new “Friday Night Lights” movie that’s in the works, MTV reports.
Peter Berg, who is executive producer and a writer for the successful TV series, recently told MTV that he is hoping for a new “Friday Nights Movie” starring the TV cast. The show itself was spun off of the 2004 film starring Billy Bob Thornton, which was based on H.G. Bissinger’s book.
Nothing is set in stone — stars like Kyle Chandler and Adrianne Palicki need to be on board — but the script is almost done, Berg told MTV.
“(Writer Jason Katims) has come up with a really great storyline that parallels what happened to Mike Leach, one of my heroes, a coach at Texas Tech who was unjustly fired and unjustly accused of mistreating a player with a concussion, which was proven to not have been the case,” Berg said. “He’s now at Washington State getting ready for what I think will be a great redemption story.”
Clear eyes, full hearts, can’t lose … go Cougs?
