Yankees Sign Kevin Youkilis For 1-Year, $12m

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Yankees have agreed to a one-year, $12 million contract with free agent third baseman Kevin Youkilis.

Youkilis turned down a two-year, $18 million proposal from the Indians in order to return to the American League East. It should be a nice fit for him in New York, where he'll start at third base until Alex Rodriguez returns from mid-January hip surgery. "Youk" hit .235/.336/.409 with 19 home runs and 60 RBI in 122 games this past season between the Red Sox and White Sox.

Red Sox fans will boo him when he comes back, and it wouldn't surprise me if it continues for a bit, knowing the Red Sox fan base. As for the actual signing, it's a good stopgap move for the Yankees and he should be a good fit for them.

The Yankees better have a backup ready for Youk when he gets hurt, it will happen. And booing by the Red Sox fan base? I expect it, but it's stupid. It's not a situation where he decided not to come back to the Red Sox. His time with the team was over already, so what's the difference what team he signs with? It's not a Damon case where he could have come back.
 
Red Sox fans shouldn't boo. They should be glad Youkilis is on the Yankees. He's overpaid and sucks at baseball now.
 
Boo/Youk... It all sounds the same. I doubt any of this affects him. It'll be fun if he mashes one over the Monster as a Yankee.

Considering this is the backup plan at third, I highly doubt they will have an effective fallback for Youk. I also agree with you that it's stupid, but when do the majority of the fans think rationally like that?
