The MLB Draft is less then a month away, so I figure it's time to start talking about it. With that said, who would you take if you had the first pick in the draft? Here's some info on the top players in the draft:
Gerrit Cole, P, UCLA-Cole has been seen as the consensus top player in the draft. He was drafted in the first round of the 2008 draft, but opted for college. He has three plus pitches, fastball, slider, and changeup; but he sometimes lacks velocity changes among his pitches.
2011 Stats: 5-6, 3.42 ERA, 92 IP, 93 Ks, 18 BBs
Anthony Rendon, 3B, Rice-Rendon is the top position player in the draft. He has average speed, but otherwise all of his tools are there. Scouts project him to be a .300 hitter, with plus power and gold glove defense. However he has some health concerns, that include a pair of ankle injuries and a shoulder injury.
2011 Stats: .326/.530/.520, 50 runs, 53 RBIs, 5 HRs
Dylan Bundy, P, Oklahoma (HS)-Bundy is seen as the top high school arm in the draft. His fastball sits at 95-98 mph, and is one of the best in the draft. He also has an above average curveball and slider, along with a changeup that needs work.
2011 Stats: W/L 8/0, IP 48, H 11, R 4, ER 2, BB 3, K 111, ERA 0.29, Whip 0.31 Note that these stats are from late April, but they're the latest that I could find.
