    Update on hacking

I just wanted everyone to know that we've been in contact with the host over the past couple days about the hack that occurred earlier in the week through Wordpress. It seems today that we actually found a competant person at the host site who could actually help us instead of giving generic advice to us.

We do know that the attack came through Wordpress, which we have deleted from the site. A lot of hacks occur through Wordpress. This was not the first hack on VSN through it, so we've deleted Wordpress from the server. Long-term, we do want some kind of content portal, but we will decide what that looks like in about a months time.

Hopefully we should not see any more issues resulting from this. My apologies on the down time.

Just want to input my 2 cents here...

Wordpress runs a ton of websites.. a TON. Wordpress isn't a fly by night piece of software. Sure it is a target etc but lets not just keep blowing the Wordpress is to blame shit around here. Vbulletin is just as exploitable as WP as well. I mean the cause here could have been an older out dated version of WP, possibly a plugin.I understand we don't need the exact cause or whatever but everytime I hear someone talking about why the website was down its wordpres wordpress wordpress. Wordpress is fine as can be seen by hundreds of thousands of websites out there. This has more to do with the way it was probably configured and neglected.

At one point there were multiple installed versions of WP on the database, at least for the first round of this. WP is fine, but it's caused us a ton of issues and not something we want to continue with moving forward.

Right but I keep seeing the blame being thrown at wordpress and it has everything to do with people implementing it and having no idea what they were doing.

I agree 100%, when Atlas took over and we upgraded to vb4 there were a lot of things that needed to be fixed. Instead of WP we're going to go with something different that's hopefully easier to keep up with. I just need to do some research on that and find what will work for us.

              FYI

Ive always had my bookmarked saved as http://www.virtualsportsnetwork.com/forum/

That has stopped working, leading me to believe the site has been down. I decided to see if maybe the homepage was working and tried virtualsportsnetwork.com and that worked, then clicked forums and that worked and saw the site was actually up.

There may be others in the same boat as I was with a previously saved bookmarks but didnt bother to check past that

Also just noticed (not sure if its just me) but when you click the FORUMS tab right under the big VSN logo

it leads to a blank page, which I would assume is the same URL that Ive had bookmarked
