IW's response to PC gamers: http://gameinformer.com/b/news/archi...-response.aspx

They just made things worse lol. These guys have no idea what they are talking about.

So, basically the PC community is pissed because they will now have to deal with lag, unskilled players or players they aren't familiar with, and having to actually pay for new maps/weapons etc. that they used to be able to skirt by making them themselves? So they're mad that they are being treated equal to console gamers?

For the most part the PC community as it is, is well past the just join a random game and play for a bit method. In general PC gamers tend to stay with some games a lot longer then the console guys do. While its not uncommon for a console guy to say he traded in his CoD4 and have moved onto another game that doesn't happen for a PC player. The reason can be anything from mod support to competitive play to who knows what. You guys have MLG for competitive. PC has lower ranked leagues that shit all over MLG.

Another thing which I didn't really realize till this point is just how little the console players want and take from games. The ADD level of some of them just astounds me.

There is so much that goes into this and why its such a huge deal. Problem is the console guys have no clue and see it as the "PC guys just whining". IW has already caused a bitch load of damage the console guys just don't know how it can affect them when it comes to future games. Where do you think a lot of their ideas for this game came from?

I can understand what you are saying, leaf, and I'd probably be pissed too if I were a PC gamer still (haven't played online on PC since Madden 2000). But you can't really expect anyone outside of the PC gaming community to have any sympathy that they are now being treated the same as the majority of gamers out there. Everyone else had to learn to deal with the shittiness of matchmaking, and if the PC guys want to play certain games, they will too.

Games have to be good and have lasting appeal to keep my attention no matter what system/PC they are on. I still play COD4 daily and had to buy it again for the PS3 when I got rid of the 360. If a game is good, I'll play it for years or until a newer version comes out.

You can't really blame developers for wanting to tap into the PC community's pockets more by not allowing them the customization they are used to having. DLC and newer versions of titles are things PC players have gotten around having to invest in for years now. Why buy a new map or newer version of a title when you don't have to?

PC players are still playing the fuck out of Counter-Strike and older Battlefields titles to this day. Those companies that make those games aren't getting repeat customers when they allow so many modifications to the games they already put out. Can't say I really blame IW for their decision to not allow dedicated servers that only cater to a small percentage of the gaming community. They are a business first and foremost, after all.

I just don't feel sorry for the fact that the PC community (if they want MW2) now has the same rules and restrictions as everyone else.

I know this will piss off PC players, but that's how I feel about it.

Umm no. Matchmaking is a reality because of the way consoles work. Not because its the way companies want to go. Bringing matchmaking and specifically P2P on the PC is a dumb move. Their reasons have been to "level the playing field" and to "make it easier for people to find games". Your telling me you can hit find server and scan through the list to find something you want? What? Terrible excuse.

In general Console gamers tend to play more games instead of spending more time in a single game, no matter the game. There is an article floating around about the time people spend on games and such which proves this but I can't seem to find it.

PC players have paid for extra content for a long time now. We just demand more because spending a few bucks on a couple maps does not warrant a price tag. Period. Not my problem developers of today are lazy.

Counterstrike source was supported for well over 3 to 4 years after its initial release. To say they don't make money off it to this day is quite wrong and you don't know how Valve marketing works. The battlefield games are another terrible example. They still make money to this day on Bf2 and 2142 off of server rentals. A small portion of the money paid towards a server rental and having a ranked server is sent to Dice to pay for their stat servers. Dice did this correctly. This model would work in MW2 if they implemented it. They would simply make more money this way if they choose this over IWnet. Hell a patch for BF2 came out last month. The game is more then 3 or 4 years old at this point.

These "rules" as you said could of been implemented better. The PC side is simply ignored and you can tell by guys like 402 who have no idea what they are talking about. Even the engineers in the article I posted have no idea what PC gamers want and what they think they are whining about. Also waiting till 3 weeks before the release of the game to announce something like this (and if there was no podcast it wouldn't of been said) is just dumb. They are going to lose so much money on this it might one of the worst failures we've seen in a while.

No, I'm saying that every other person that has switched from PC to console gaming has had to learn to deal with matchmaking.

Thats just the way the industry is headed. Not much we can do about it. If we don't pay, we don't get the maps. You don't have to buy them, but you just can't tweak them yourself anymore. Its developers saying "this is our game and we want you to play it how it we want you to play it". IW is just forcing PC gamers to play by their rules with MW2 and the community is upset because its not what they are used to.

I never said the developers didn't support or still make money off of their older games. I said they've lost out on the ability to make more through DLC and completely newer versions of their games.

These "rules" as you said could of been implemented better. The PC side is simply ignored and you can tell by guys like 402 who have no idea what they are talking about. I read the article and I completely agree with you here. I said I would've been pissed too if I was still online gaming on a PC. The author was definitely not empathetic towards the PC crowd by referring to them as "nerds across the world" and it was shitty to announce it three weeks before release.

I know IW stands to lose money from the sale of PC versions, but how much we really don't know. This game is going to be one of the best selling games in history, regardless of platform. Is the entire PC community really not going to buy this game now? Really? You know that if the game itself is good enough, a lot them will cave no matter what they are posting now. And if those same people do cave, what's going to stop them from purchasing DLC when it comes available if they can no longer modify it themselves or buying MW3 when 2 becomes stale.

I don't like the way it was handled any more than you, but I can see why the developers are doing it on a business side for themselves.

I don't think you actually know what modding does. BTW forcing players to play a game a certain way.... yeah that sounds right doesn't it. You can't do that to a group of people that have had things a certain way for many years. Most of us arn't sheep.

That still doesn't make sense. You don't need DLC to make money. BF2 out of anyone proved this. Counterstrike and even TF2 proved this. BF2 also showed how DLC should be done.

I don't know about the whole community. You know there will be people that buy it but a good chunk won't. They are going to be losing a lot of money on this and not to just sales. If they spent a lot of time on IWnet (like they keep telling us over and over) and it fails I hope they make money of the consoles.

I'm not going to deny how much this game is going sell. But what they are trying to do is pretty stupid. I can't see why from even a business side they are doing this. Its a pretty stupid decision and a very blind one. That 402 guy needs to put the xbox controller down and try and learn what people want instead of twittering about running into tree's all day.

BTW I wonder what the uproar will be when CoD becomes an XboX exclusive. Its really leaning towards that from what I've been hearing.

This game still sells 7-10 million copies on 360 alone lol

COD 4 sold 4.6 Mil on PS3 when the user base wasnt that big, i imagine the ps3 numbers should be better for this game.

Probably a big uproar. I would just have to stop playing the game I guess, because I will never own another 360...not even if it was given to me as a gift. I refuse to support that console again.

I can understand why you guys are pissed but they are going to sell so many copies of this game they will pretty much do what they want sadly.
