    Audio...PS3 vs 360

I remember talking about this over at MM. I have always thought that the audio in most PS3 games has destroyed 360 games. It's louder, crisper and more vibrant, IMO. But people like Virix, who I know is an audiophile and knows what he's talking about, said they should be the same considering what type of receiver you have.
Well, I don't know why it took me so long to notice but I just happened to look on the back of the inFamous box and noticed that the game feature DTS audio. Is it because some PS3 games support DTS? I don't think the 360 is even capable of DTS output?
I think anyone can agree that DTS destroys DD.

    Thoughts?

DTS and Dolby is just compression, and DTS is usually a much larger file. The PS3 can do DTS (and the 360 cant) because of the space, but it isnt so cut and dry that one format is better than the other. DTS is usually louder than DD 5.1, but louder doesnt equal better. I dont really have a preference on formats, because I find them pretty much the same, although like I said DTS seems louder.

Ive noticed that sometimes the 360 decodes DD and sends the signal PCM, and Im not really sure why. I think the audio setup is better on the PS3 without question, but the end result is pretty much the same when my receiver is decoding.

Yup. The Ps3 was the first Bluray player capable of DTS-HD and DTS-MA. It only applies to movies though. I dont think ive seen any 360 games that support DTS, although Ive always assumed it was because of the space on the disc. DTS movies are supported though, so Im sure its possible.

Ok, so on the PS3 I currently have my reciever setup to run the audio through optical, but the video is through hdmi.

Is there any advantage to running the audio through either optical or hdmi or is it the same?

HDMI has more bandwidth, and can support higher end sound codecs. HDMI is the way to go, as long as your reciever supports PCM via HDMI. The PS3 can do all the decoding for you.

The PS3 can output DVI ( why you brought this up in a sound thread is beyond me since VGA is a video signal only).. anyways HDMI to DVI for a monitor since DVI is better than VGA anyways.
