    [ABA] The Story

    The ABA: The Story
In June of 2010, the economic recession was sadly turning into a depression. The NBA, a league which had been losing exposure after the last season, announced bankruptcy and that it would be folding. Three days after the announcement, the American Basketball Association, which had been in the shadows since the merger in 1976, came to a deal with the ex-owners of the NBA, and decided to buy the league for a price that was undisclosed. After the ABA bought the league, they named the commissioner. The new commissioner would be David Stern, who was the commissioner of the NBA. The ABA did not have set teams, but instead allowed anybody who could afford a team to join. Stern decided soon after to announce the 14 teams, which are shown in the header. Each of these teams will be entered into a 15 round fantasy draft, which would allow the best of the players to continue their careers. Sadly, everybody else who didn't get picked would lose their contracts and would be pooled into free agency. There is no salary cap, as to the players who will continue onto the ABA will keep their current contracts, unless both sides agree on a renegotiation. Stern added that next season, if all runs well, there may be 2-4 expansion teams. During the Depression of 2010, the future looks bright for sports fans.
