EA gets a little taste of their own medicine? (MMA)

Fighters to be forever banned from the UFC if they take part in the EA MMA video game

This disheartening bit of news first came from Golden Boy at the UG

"I hear that all mma managers were informed that if any of their clients not currently under contract with the UFC..... sign to be a part of the EA game.......the will forever be banned for fighting in the UFC."

Sounds like a simple rumor right? Albeit from a pretty reputable source, but then later in the forum post, MMA Uber agent Ken Pavia of MMAAgents.com says this.

"It's true. And they told me want the word out."

In any case, if 100% true, this just plain blows. So let me get this straight, if I am an up and coming fighter fighting for an MMA organization not named UFC. I have to turn down money that I could feed my family with, just for the very slim chance that one day the UFC may sign me to a contract.

Listen this could all be smoke and mirrors or it could be misinterpreted, but we can still discuss. What happens to current UFC fighters that still own their image rights like Randy Couture and Lyoto Machida? This is just mind blowing to me if true.

It's kinda nice to see someone stick it to EA after they buy all the football licenses and continue to put out shit year after year (maybe this year will be different?). Then again, for all we know, this could be exaggerated and nothing will really happen.

Not really, UFC might be the most popular but there are alot of good fighters and slightly diffrent rules in MMA, i think it's a little better even tho it doesn't have the big names.

Kimbo Slice will probably be in the game too since he's not a UFC fighter, and Fedor. Lots of fighters that aren't in the UFC and are a lot more popular than the fighters in the UFC.
Uhh... Yeah, this means if they sign up for the game, they won't be allowed in the UFC ever. BTW, Kimbo Slice in on the next Ultimate Fighter season, being recorded right now.

Dana "accidentally" spoiled that Kimbo gets knocked out by some random guy so hes not on the show anymore, plus he did an interview saying he was scheduling his next street fight so its Over for Kimbo.

On another note the UFC isn't the end all be all of MMA, I'm actually glad Dana did this, this way EA can focus on the 100+ other fighters that deserve to get in a game and they won't have to worry about making the UFC fighters perfect

Yeah, luckily there is a big enough market of other non-UFC fighters so we don't have to worry about a one-horse race in MMA gaming.

UFC president Dana White has gone on an expletive-fuelled tirade against EA Sports, lashing out at not only the publishing powerhouse, but at any UFC fighter that agrees to appear in EA's upcoming mixed martial arts title as well.

White (pictured) says that back in the early days of the Ultimate Fighting Championship, EA were dismissive of the fledgling competition, telling him "You're not a real sport. We wouldn't touch this thing. We want nothing to do with this".

Now, though? Now that the UFC is raking in the TV ratings and the mega bucks? "We put our asses on the line, THQ and the UFC, to make a video-game deal in the worst economy in the world," he says. "We go out there and do this thing, and it's successful, and now [expletive] EA Sports wants to do a video game. Really? That's not what you told us a year-and-a-half ago."

In order to compete with THQ's smash hit title, EA will release their own mixed martial arts title, albeit one without the official blessing of the UFC. And in putting this game together, are looking to license real-world fighters, something that's going to have consequences not just on the battle between these two MMA video games, but for the UFC itself.

Why? Because the UFC boss says he has a clear message to any of his fighters looking to make a buck by appearing in EA's game: "You won't be in the UFC".

"I'm not tap-dancing around this thing or whatever," White says. "I'm telling you straight-up, I'm at war with [EA] right now. That's how I look at it".

"EA doesn't give a [expletive] about mixed martial arts. They made that very clear."

Peter Moore response.......but doesn't comment on Dana White's statement

Dana White, boss of the Ultimate Fighting Championship, has some rather unpleasant things to say about EA Sports and their attempts to mosey in on the mixed martial arts market. But what does EA Sport's Peter Moore have to say?

Aside from revealing that he's seen a playable build of EA's MMA title - which lacks the UFC license - Moore says:

I know there has been some recent discussion about EA SPORTS bringing a challenger to this sport. I love mixed martial arts, and we've been working on a game concept since I came to (sic) two years ago. I have great respect for the organizations and individuals that have invested in the sport's growth over the past decade – so this is one that is near and dear to me and I'm excited to see such good progress to date. I trace my MMA video game roots back to my support of Crave's UFC title on the Dreamcast in 2000, and have been a fan ever since. Our title will bring both innovation and further authenticity to mixed martial arts, not to mention a strong global publishing network that will help spread the sport's popularity around the world.

Note he mentions "respect for the organizations and individuals that have invested in the sport's growth over the past decade", without once addressing White's and the UFC's allegations that EA are showing anything but respect.

Now let's point out the obvious

Dana White says 18 months ago (1.5 years) he came to EA and they said GTFO with your shitty product, it sucks, it's unpopular and won't sell.

Peter Moore says 24 months ago (2 years) they started working on an MMA title.

                              Wait a minute.....
