hmm... virtually every Irish fan's list has Montana as the starter, but he never won All American, never won Unitas, never came close to Heisman. He had a 20-5 record as a starter, so that saying something. Still, not sure his college career warrants it considering the number of QBs who did do those things at Notre Dame. He's in the top three at any other school in the country.

As of right now, I've got Johnny Lujack, John Huarte, and Paul Hornung, though I'm considering moving Beuerlein or Theismann into the three so there's someone people know.

Clausen? I can understand having never heard of Lujack, but Clausen over Mirer or Theismann? Or Quinn for that matter?

Please do, you seem to have some perspective.

Here are who I consider candidates for the QB spots

Gus Dorias, Angelo Bertelli, Johnny Lujack, Paul Hornung, John Huarte, Joe Theismann.

The more I look into Montana, the more I'm thinking he may deserve a spot. 20-5, the Cotton Bowl comeback (plus numerous other borderline miracle wins), 2 National Championships... it's looking more and more like he didn't win All American or Heisman through no fault of his own, but that he was overlooked.

I was just stirring the pot, i know there is no way you wouldnt have Montana as the starter although his collegiate statistics dont really jump off the page at you.

                    Im no ND fan either

I misread it. I thought you were saying that should be my depth chart.

I was gonna base it on era played.

Anyone who played during or before the Knute Rockne (1887-1930) era would be seniors.

Anyone who played during the Hunk Anderson to Joe Kuharich era (1931-1962) would be juniors.

Players from the Ara Parseghian to Lou Holtz (1963-1996) era would be sophomores

Anyone from Bob Davie to Charlie Weis (1997-now) would be freshmen

Kinda breaks it into four distinct eras of Irish football. Each of those points represent a major turning point in Notre Dame history. My only issue with it is that the bulk of the best players on the roster will be sophomores.

                          Autry Denson at RB
                          Jerome Bettis at FB
                          Bobby Taylor at CB
                          Justin Tuck at DE
                          Anthony Weaver at DE
I wanna say Ryan Grant but he never got on the field

A lot of candidates for this team. Some names that I didn't notice mentioned are:

                            DB Tom Carter
                            LB Bob Crable
                            WR Derrick Mayes
                            DB Allen Rossum
                            K/P Craig Hentrich
                            RB Tony Brooks

Maybe Carlson and Fasano deserve some consideration as well.
