Random thought:
I read somewhere that offensive coordinators and defensive coordinators will boost players abilities...and that got me to thinking about one Head Coach element in particular, and how they could be incorporated into Madden.
I'd like to see two new ratings for each player: learning ability, and playbook knowledge.
Learning ability: How fast a player can learn a playbook from week-to-week.
Playbook Knowledge: How well a player knows the playbook.
The playbook knowledge rating would improve on a weekly basis, but how much it improved from week-to-week would depend upon the player's learning ability rating.
A low playbook knowledge rating would of course result in several on-the-field issues: a blocker missing his blocking assignment, a defender blowing his assignment, a wide receiver not running the correct route, a runningback missing a handoff because he went to the left side instead of the right, resulting in a busted play, and as for quarterback...hey, maybe he gives his team the wrong play every once in a while.
Naturally, this system would also greatly impact incoming rookies with 0 playbook knowledge. Learning ability could be a key rating you scout for to determine just how long it will be before this guy is ready to step on the field without so many mistakes. Also, a free agent coming from a similar system might be more appealing than a free agent from a different system who has a higher OVR, simply because his playbook knowledge will be higher due to the fact that he played in a similar system with his former team.
I think this would add another slice of realism in the game...also, it would offer an incentive to keep your former coordinators. Afterall, the longer a coordinator is with the team, the higher everyone's playbook knowledge is going to be because the longer they've had to study it. As it stands right now, I think the current system will probably allow you to just swap coordinators every year with no real penalties as cheesers attempt to find the coordinators who give their players the highest attributes boosts.
Just a thought I had. Discuss at will.
