because its football. people associate football with being a physical, 'man', sport. Also madden is the closest thing to playing football for most people who arent physically capable of doing so.

Soccer fans don't get passionate lol? Fifa doesn't beat out nearly all them games for sales worldwide? Fifa doesn't translate soccer well?

42 per cent of the game’s sales were on Xbox 360, making it the third fastest selling game ever on Microsoft’s format behind only Grand Theft Auto IV and Halo - From an article about Fifa 09

I love playing madden, I was raised by a single mother who would never let me play football at school. She thought i was too little and would get hurt. My dad was an all state football player and probably broke 7 bones during his time playing football in HS.
I played basketball and baseball on teams growing up. I always had to get my football fix via Tecmo Bowl,Joe Montana, Deion Sanders, or John Madden football on nes/Genesis, then the sony consoles.

Im not going to lie and say i didnt know much Xs and Os before playing madden. All I had ever played was neighborhood football before that. Madden actually helped me pick out things in NFL games i wouldve never noticed before. I now watch games from a different perspective.

The NFL is the most popular sport in America but i wouldnt say it translates the best without a doubt to video games. The Show does a great job of capturing the atmosphere of a baseball game.

Anywhere in the Southeast, unless there is a NFL team in that city NCAA football is a much bigger deal. Titans are talked about 365 days around here, but Vols fans talk football 365 24/7. People will call into sports talk radio just to talk about what they read on the internet about a HS junior who TN was looking at, its out of control lol.

Dude do yourself a favor and stop using Caps Lock on your title. You come off as retarded desperate.

I find Hockey and Football in a close tie with translating to video games. I think baseball is sneaking up, but thats because of The Show. Otherwise, High Heat Baseball on the PC back in the day was awesome.

Because in Football, you can be any type of person and theyll find a position for you. So guys of all shapes and sizes enjoy football.

You find too many fat guys loving to play hoops or hoop video games. Many cant relate to a behind the back dribble into a spin into a crossover to a bounce pass for an assist.

At every Madden release, I see more fat guys and basically athletic bums.

Football in general is a such a great game b/c on any given play SO MUCH can happen. It is that anticipation and excitement that makes it so addicting. Also as you get deeper into the game and strategy the game can become a mental chess match.

I agree with the thread though . Nothing compares to the NFL and NFL games for me (hype wise at least)

Just had to stick up for the national sport here :D

Archer is completely right, Madden is only really big in North America, in the rest of the world FIFA is easily the best selling sports video game.

Actually it is the top selling game every year if you put together the numbers of game sales worldwide

It hasn't translated the best in terms of the games actual "gameplay." But I do agree that its easily the most popular among players/consumers.

Football is America's pastime, not baseball, no matter what anyone says.
So people are naturally over the top about their game.
And the fact that EA has released pretty mediocre football the past five or six years, with no alternatives being offered. That brings out a lot of understandable emotion too.
