Netflix Movie Streaming Coming to PlayStation 3

PlayStation 3 owners will be able to stream movies and TV shows from Netflix on their gaming consoles starting next month.

Sony Corp. and Netflix Inc. were set to announce the deal Monday. The service will be available for free to PlayStation 3 owners who have a Netflix subscription that costs more than $9 a month.

For Netflix, the move means reaching new customers. About 9 million PlayStation 3 systems have been sold in U.S.

For Sony, which already sells movies and TV shows on the console, it means yet another feature to tout as it markets the PlayStation as a diverse entertainment device.

Netflix streaming is already available on Microsoft Corp.'s Xbox 360. This leaves Nintendo Co.'s Wii as the last holdout.

Now the 360 has streaming 1080p movies and Last.fm.

Just sayin.

Its good for PS3 users that they are finally getting it, I knew it was going to happen eventually. When Netflix was first available for the 360, the movies that were available for watch now that were Sony movies couldnt be streamed. When Sony backed off of that and allowed them to be streamed to the 360 I figured some sort of deal had to be made for the PS3 to get Netflix.

I just cant wait to see all of the PS3 people who said how they "dont care about Netflix" all of a sudden have a change of heart lol.

I was streaming through the PC. It will be interesting to note the differences.

Anyway.....go to www.netflix.com/ps3 to sign up to be notified when its launched. Rumors are that before a firmware update is released by Sony, we will need a Blu Ray disc to enable us to watch HD movies. This disc will be free.

I had a 360 and didn't use Netflix, so I won't be using this on PS3. Not my thing, I guess.

I've been streaming movies and shit on my ps3 for a long time now.

nero scout/media share ftw. basically allows you to stream movie/music/whatever the fuck files on your pc onto your ps3 using your network.

This is pretty sweet though.

i used the free trial on the 360 and it was a worthless pile of shit. The idea is great and all, but the movies they offered were shit. You had such a very very small selection to choose from.

maybe they expanded the library of movies you can stream. But even then why pay for it when you can get it for free

Yea.......I tried that using Play On, and another software. The problem was it wasn't as smooth as when I streamed directly from the PC.

Last.fm has been available since launch on PS3 with the web browser, and I still don't care about netflix.
