New wave of XBL bannings (firmware detection?)

Its kinda lame. People go buy a 360, swap the guts (other than the flashed drive) and box it all back up and return it. Imagine a kid getting the 360 for Xmas, opening it, hooking it up and realizing that its banned from XBL because some fag returned a banned system. Shit sucks.Comment

Yup, thats why Im not that worried about it and most people arent lol. People I know have one system for online and one that has been banned.

I never said it was Microsoft's fault. I just said I think its a bigger problem because it seems to be happening much more with the ban hammer hitting so many people. Also, I cant really say its the company selling it either. You can easily remove/replace the stickers with a heat gun or a blow dryer that gets really hot. Its pretty much undetectable.Comment

BTW I would LOL hard if they did something like this for MW2. Have DRM loaded onto the disk and if a firmware check is done and not passed your console is flagged. What really would make my day is if they killed the dvd drive with the DRM like they do with some PC games.
Doing it on release day would bring the lulz.Comment

Like I said its laziness on the company selling them and taking them back. When I worked in computer parts retail I never took a part back till it was tested. Customers complained but my store never got scammed either.

Umm you just turn it on and log into a store live acount. Really not that hard. Gamestop already turns it on.

Yeah, I worked at a computer store too and we had the same policy. Hardly the same as someone opening a (seemingly) factory sealed console and testing it. Small stores would be able to do something like that, but these people dont target them. They target stores that do so much volume that they really WONT open a sealed system. Everyone knows Gamestop turns on the systems, so people go to Wal-Mart, Target and other major chains. I really cant say I blame the stores for not opening a sealed system.
We had people buying whole nice towers and then try to return them a few days later only to find they were missing a few things. The warranty seal was still on them so they obviously just used a hot air gun.
I don't care if they are bigger stores or not. They should be protecting themselves and their customers.

Most stores have a policy that you cannot return an opened console. So you think that they should get a sealed console and open it to check it, then sell it? I think if I walked into a store and they tried to sell me a console they opened Id be quite pissed. Things in computer stores are quite different. Half of the shit we sold was OEM, and the computers were built in the store lol. Thats a little different than someone at a returns counter opening a factory sealed console.
Im just not sure you could enforce a rule that unopened consoles wont be accepted in return (except for the same item) then open it at the counter.Last edited by Virix; 11-05-2009, 10:09 PM.Comment

There goes two, just to shut up all the idiots saying its not the firmware, the banning has started here in MEXICO so far FOUR consoles banned, all of them modded by ME, and i didnt use its respective xboxes to power the drives, ONE of this consoles we just flashed it five hours ago and my friend AND OWNER agreed to mod it and make the tests online, the console is a Resident Evil 5 special edition RED buyed 6 months ago
we never put any disc after the flashing JUST the HDD we went online played a few games of arcade in his account, an xbox live party, went offline shut down the console, tried again 5 minutes later to go online AGAIN, with the ETHERNET CABLE connected the console just BEFORE entering online showed the message VETADO in english BANNED and was BEFORE we EVEN connected to xbox live, even BEFORE.
and BEFORE some idiot say that it was reckless and not true or possible we did that test since the console we used its only going to be used for a business in wich we rent the consoles here in mexico to play for amounts of time and we dont need that the console even save anything or connect ever again online we just need the laser to work properly, we have also another NOT BANNED BUT not gonna make anyore tests 7 CONSOLES including mine wich im not going to be stupid enough to connect it online ever again, im autobanning myself BUT i wanna see now some idiots come AND tell me ITS NOT the firmware, when a console we just modded five hour ago has been BANNED, come on jerks come and make your lame excuses now, or tell me that im lying i can show you the picture of the other xboxes i have or that one for that matter and yes it's BANNED.
