    Anyone experience firmware 3.1 problems?

I downloaded the update tonight and watched the Star Trek blu-ray.
    No problems so far.

    I own the original 60-gig PS3.

    That's why I told you what ps3 I had.

I suspect some of these firmware bugs are very much tied to the console you're using.

I DLed the update and played MW2 for about 2.5 hours and my system crashed lmao

          Coincidence?

I saw a ton of guys post the same thing about their system overheating and getting flashing red or YLOD shortly after the update. The same thing happened when COD4 came out a ton of systems overheated after the update. Im sure everyone will say people were playing marathon sessions. I know personally i've left my PS3 on 12-24 hours many times with no problem. This time i may have had it powered up 3 hours total and its fried. I need to disassemble this mfer today and get my stuck MW2 disc out.

Paying $150 to fix a problem that didn't exist before a mandatory firmware install is not something I can abide by.
                    $150?!? Fuck that!

                      Fuckers.
That's ridiculous. I would do some internet research and see how many other people have had problems. It seems that every time there is a significant firmware update a decent amount of systems get bricked. I would try to find a site, playstation.com maybe, where there is a thread where hundreds of people are complaining and reference any complaints to that.

I'm guessing you have already talked to a supervisor?

The only things mine is exhibiting right now is the trophy issue (who cares?) and the optical drive issues. Seems as though the PS3 struggles to read anything on blu-ray...after a while (which makes no sense). If I turn on the machine, I can load things up...but after a few minutes, it stutters and then hangs. If I eject the disc (takes a while), turn the machine off and then try everything again...same problem. Works for a few minutes, then hangs.

I've tried talking to supervisors when I call, and I'm told they're busy helping other customers. I offer to wait on hold, and they never answer the call. I've emailed Consumers Services a number of times, and they are no help. I've filed a complaint with the BBB, and I'm just waiting to hear back from them.

Despite the admittedly small number of folks who may be effected by this (in the grand scheme), its still frustrating that Sony acts like they've never heard of this before, despite all the posts on their own forum and the class action suit that's been filed for this very problem.
It is bullshit. And unfortunately it's the same problem with every huge company. Remember how long MS denied the widespread RROD issues? I can only hope that Sony wakes up and takes responsibility as well.
