    Is the PS3 backwards compatible?

Thinking of getting one for X-mas, just curious if they are backwards compatible. If they are, how's the quality? I'd like to play the old NCAA games (2006-2007) but backwards compatability blows on the 360 so they played like shit.

I can only speak for the 60gb, which has hardware backwards compatibility, but it players perfect. The slims dont have any backward compatibility, so if its something that really interests you, Id suggest finding a 60gb with a warranty on ebay or something.

60 gigs are quite pricey... better off sticking with a ps2

ehh, you can get them for under $300. Buying a slim and a PS2 is more pricey.

Its software BC though, the 60gb is the last system (I think) that actually has a PS2 chip in it meaning it works with 100% of the PS2 games, whereas the others work with most but not all games.

It was rumored a while back that they were going to include software BC so they could sell PS2 games on the store, but I'm not sure whatever happened to that, perhaps that is all it was...a rumor.

I knew that my launch 60GB PS3 had backwards compatibility but I didn't realize that it made it more valuable on eBay. I've been wanting to sell it and get the 250GB PS3 Slim since I don't have anymore PS2 games...so I think I will be putting it up for sale tomorrow :D

Usually BC PS3s are alot more expensive but Cnet.com sells em for about 250$ last time i checked. But it could have been a Christmas sell.
